Fun Things to Do This Weekend for Westchester Families: Talent Show, Fairs, Concert & More, August 10 & 11

We've had a nice break from the blazing heat this week and there are lots of ways to enjoy the gorgeous weather this weekend in Westchester. The annual South Salem Fire Department Carnival is going on now through Saturday and don't forget the New York Renaissance Faire continues this weekend. Also on Saturday, check out Kidz Bop Kids at Rye Playland, get creative at the 1st annual Sidewalk Chalk ArtFest at Cross County Shopping Center or check out the 13th Annual Storytelling Music Festival. Sunday head to the Hudson River Museum for a Family Talent Show, the last event in their Family Summer Sundays series, or check out the Summer Fair at Muscoot Farm.

75th Annual Fire Department Carnival - South Salem
Spend your evenings enjoying all the fun of a classic carnival--rides, games, food, prizes and more, plus enjoy live music from local bands, nightly parades and more. Now through Saturday. $25 braclet grants full access.

Kidz Bop Live with Goodbye Friday - Rye
Rye Playland's concert series continues this Saturday with Kidz Bop Live. Free with park admission (lawn seating and standing room only); all ages welcome. $10 for spectator pass.

Sidewalk Chalk ArtFest - Yonkers
Regional artists, both professional and amateur, will create their "Summer in the Park" themed chalk creations throughout Cross County Shopping Center. Artists get started on their masterpieces at 8am, with judging scheduled for 4pm. You can even vote for your favorite...the People's Choice Award is $150! Kids can get into the spirit of chalk art also by heading to Kid's Zone on The Green in the center of the mall for chalk art activities from 1pm to 3pm. Kids can enjoy crafts, face painting, hop scotch and more. FREE

Annual Storytelling & Music Festival - Crompond
Enjoy a full afternoon of professional storytelling on two stages (one for adults and one for families) and an evening of Twilight Tales (a.k.a. Ghost Stories) around flickering candlelight. There are also many events and workshops happening throughout the day, including a 'teddy bear tea party', face painting by Christopher Agostino and more. Prices vary starting at $15 for adults, $3 for children.

Family Talent Show at Hudson River Museum - Yonkers
The Purple Crayon will host a Family Talent Show at Hudson River Museum's amphitheater. Showcase your talent in music, dance, comedy, and more. Ages 10 and up can enter; all ages welcome to watch. FREE

Summer Fair at Muscoot Farm - Katonah
Enjoy music, food, hayrides, face painting and more while members of Westchester's 4H clubs http://counties.cce.cornell.edu/westchester/4-Hclubs.htm demonstrate how to care for farm animals and share their club experiences and what they've learned by being a member. FREE

$5 Summer Movie - Tarrytown
Tarrytown Music Hall is having two $5 screenings on Sunday. Mary Poppins will be showing on the big screen at 3pm. My kids love this movie and would be thrilled to see it on the big screen! Then at 6pm, West Side Story, another great classic (though for older kids) will be showing and 4 cast members from the movie will be on hand for a Q&A after the show! $5 for each screening.

4th Annual Family Fun Night - Mamaroneck
Head to Harbor Island Park with the whole family for an evening of fun. Ride in a kayak, play volleyball and dance under the stars to live music. You can even sit fireside and make 'smores! The spray showers will be open late for this evening event and a special menu will be available at the food concession. FREE

Beyond Westchester

Make your way to Queens for the annual Hong Kong Dragon Boat Festival going on all weekend. Immerse yourself in Chinese culture and check out over 120 dragon boat teams from across North America. 

Mystic, CT is hosting their 56th Annual Outdoor Art Festival. Enjoy miles (literally!) of family fun including the Children's Art Park where kids are encouraged to let their creativity shine.
