Let it "Snow:" Magical Events Around Houston That Feature Snow & Ice

12/22/17 - By Ashley Jones

Texans may not see actual snow as much as our neighbors to the north, but we still manage to get in our fair share of wintertime fun. Whether taking a spin on one of Houston's seasonal open-air ice skating rinks or playing in man-made snow flurries, Houstonians have several festive options to choose from when it comes to activities involving snow and ice. We've not only rounded up the best places in Houston to participate in these winter ventures, but we've also found some stellar spots for winter fun around the rest of our great state as well.

Ice Land at Moody Gardens - Galveston
Journey through more than 2 MILLION pounds of ice sculptures at Moody Gardens’ Ice Land. A walk through the very chilly nine-degree tent puts spectators deep inside the rainforest this year. The 2017 rainforest theme boasts sculptures of ornate trees, birds, snakes, and many other creatures found deep inside the rainforest, all carved out of extremely large blocks of ice. Also at Moody Gardens, take a ride down their Arctic Slide made entirely of ice, or skate on an open-air ice rink.

The ICE at Discovery Green - Houston
Nothing says wintertime like being at an outdoor ice-skating rink. Bundle up (or not, because it might be 80 degrees out) and head to Discovery Green, where Kinder Lake has been transformed into an ice rink through January 21.

Bayou Bend Christmas Village - Houston
In addition to touring the spectacular grounds at the historic 14-acre estate, visitors can also sled down a faux snow slide at the Bayou Bend Christmas Village. This slide offers the unique opportunity to go sledding right in the middle of Houston! While you're there, you can even toss cotton "snowballs" and have a snowball fight no matter what the temperature is like outside.

Rosenberg Railroad Museum Winterfest - Rosenberg
This annual festival makes sure that their visitors have a chance to play in the snow each winter season. On January 20, the Rosenberg Railroad Museum transforms into a snowy oasis complete with games, prizes, crafts, and of course plenty of SNOW!
