Tid Bits: Events, news and our giveaway winner

10/10/07 - By Anna Fader

I often hear that one of the big problems bloggers have is running out of ideas of what to write about. Luckily I have never faced that issue. In fact, I have just the opposite. There are so many amazing things going on in NYC for kids that I actually have a queue of over 50 posts just waiting to be written at any time. I just wish there were more of me so I could get to all of them. So, in this post I'm going to throw out a bunch of little snippets that I've had sitting in my queue waiting for their day in the sun...and at the end I'll announce the winner of our Warm Biscuit Bedding Company Giveaway.

OUR LATEST VIDEOS

Toys R Us Holiday Express Toys R Us has opened a temporary location at Broadway and 4th Street in the old Tower Records space. I'm sure this will bring joy to the hearts of many Downtown parents, but it has raised the ire of Copyranter for having Christmas decorations up on September 27th, which is disgustingly early. (via Racked) William Wegman: Around the Park Catch a little kid-friendly culture in between the jungle gym and the swing. Until October 28th, William Wegman's video piece, Around the Park, will be playing on four monitors by the Shake Shack. The work shows Wegman's famously attired dogs posing around Madison Square Park and is sure to be a hit with kids. The videos run from 8am to 8pm with a break at 1pm for a retrospective of Wegman's other video works. Brains and Beauty Event The Brains and Beauty Event is an educational parenting workshop and a fun evening of shopping rolled into one. Led by education consultant and parent, Sara Lise Raff, the workshop will give parents a unique bag of tricks that can help them keep their cool in tough situations and provide the educational tools parents need to support learning and emotional growth for their children. After the workshop, participants will have an opportunity to socialize, enjoy drinks and hors d’oeuvres, and shop from a variety of local mom owned businesses. You'll leave with a parenting bag of tricks, a shopping bag of treats and a gift bag too! When: Mid-town on the evening of Thursday, October 18th. The History of Childcare Book Talk Join Roselyn Baxendal for a talk on the history of day care in NYC, the subject of a book she is currently writing. Ms. Baxendal is a distinguished professor, feminists, activist, mother, grandmother, author of several books and co-founder of the Liberation Nursery School on the Lower East Side. When: Monday October 29, at 4:45-6pm. Space is limited. To reserve your space please email: info@airplaneyoga.com Bashed: The ABCs of Party Planning Bashed is a one-day event designed to give parents access to everything you would ever want to know about throwing a party for kids in NYC all in one place. Whether you're looking for a Klezmer band for a Bat Mitzvah, a Magician for a toddler's birthday party or the next cool or unique party idea that you didn't even know existed, you'll find it all at Bashed. There'll be seven seminars on party planning, loads of entertainment, and terrific gift bags to take home. Bashed is hosted by the same dynamic duo who dreamed up Parent P-L-A-Y, a series of events that allow parents to enjoy a little bit of socializing, luxury and entertainment while the kids are frolicking in a separate room under the watchful eye of babysitters, so you can expect this event to be just as well thought out and packed with great stuff. Giveaway Winner And, finally, our giveaway winner (picked randomly from the random number generator at random.org) is Aari, who said:
Just checked out the site and I am so excited about the fabric I might actually dust off my sewing machine! There is so much stuff here I wish I’d found earlier, but there are great wallies that will round out my sons’ room, and a shelf I’ve been looking for. Love all the custome stuff - I haven’t seen any of this stuff anywhere else, and that NEVER happens. Thank you Mommy Poppins!!
A great comment and a great prize. Congrats, Aari! We're all jealous. And, I hope it does inspire you to get your sewing machine out.
