Infant and Child CPR Courses in Connecticut

4/4/15 - By Mary Beth Lawlor

For some of us, it’s hard to tell one end of a newborn from the other. We are, shall we say, the “scientifically challenged”.  But even those of us who didn’t shine in high school science can benefit from of one of the many CPR and First Aid classes available in Fairfield County.

CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation) courses instruct one in how to perform rescue breathing and chest compressions to help sustain oxygen flow for someone who has collapsed.  First Aid classes instruct individuals how to treat burns, wounds and other emergency situations.  Also available are Car Seat Safety Checks, where you will be shown how to install your carseat properly.

All of these classes and checks are great ways to make sure you’re as prepared as possible for everything your little (or big) kiddos might throw your way!!!

4. Online CPR and First Aid Classes Online courses are a great option if you can’t find a convenient class nearby.  You can study the information at your own pace (typically you will need 2-4 hours in total to complete the coursework) and take a test upon completion.  Courses cost just under $18.  Check out cprclass.org for more information.

5. Car Seat Safety Inspections Several police stations in the state offer car seat safety inspections.  Refer to the list at the website to find one near you.  Many safety inspection programs require an appointment, and some inspection sites only serve residents of their town.

Of course, Murphy’s Law dictates that once you learn these skills, you won’t ever need them. And what could be better than that? Nonetheless, it never hurts to be prepared - and these readily available classes and services make getting prepared a snap.
