Kennett Symphony of Chester County's Annual Children's Concert and Instrument Zoo
Are you tired of listening to The Wiggles, Kidz Bop or Nursery Rhyme CDs with your children? Then, why not open your kids’ eyes (and ears) to the sounds of the symphony!
The Kennett Symphony of Chester County is offering a family-friendly concert, Sunday March 1, 2015 at Lincoln University. On Sunday, March 8, 2015 the same concert is performed at West Chester University. Admission is only $5 per ticket. I have taken my three kids as well as my husband to this concert in the past and it truly is a wonderful experience for children of all ages.
OUR LATEST VIDEOS
The symphony performs a variety of music for families including a song or two kids may recognize. This current production, Stories in Sound, is fun, interactive and includes audience participation. While the symphony plays, guests create a story based on the music they hear. Featured selections for the upcoming performance include:
• Williams Star Wars
• Grieg Peer Gynt, 1st and 4th movements
• Copland Hoedown
• Bizet Toreadors
• Beethoven Symphony No. 6, 4th movement
• Saint-Saëns Danse Macabre
• Fučík Entrance of the Gladiators
After the performance, there is an “Instrument Petting Zoo” where the children can play instruments. Little ones get to meet the musicians too. My kids were lucky enough to play the violin, drums, cymbals, piccolo and flute. They also played some sort of percussion instrument that made a ‘train whistle’ sound and kind of made me feel like I was on the Island of Sodor.
At Lincoln University in Chester County, visitors are able to park in the lot next to the concert hall, the International Cultural Center. Parking is free and the lot has its entrance off Elkdale Road.
The March 8th concert takes place in the Emilie K. Asplundh Hall in the Philips Memorial Building at West Chester University. Parking is available four blocks south of the concert hall in the large parking lot and building on South Matlack Street, or on-street parking can be found throughout the campus.
So, if you are looking for a fun cultural experience for your children, attend one of these upcoming performances presented by the Kennett Symphony of Chester County. Help foster your youngster’s love for the Arts. You never know, it may save you from another Wiggles song!
