With Thanksgiving a week away, that festive holiday spirit is definitely in the air! Get the whole family excited for Turkey Day with A Discovery Museum Thanksgiving at the Garden State Discovery Museum or take the kiddos to make a Thanksgiving Centerpiece at the Frelinghuysen Arboretum. For an early dose of holiday fun, check out the opening weekend of Christmas Fantasy with Lights at Storybook Land or the Holiday Model Train Show hosted by the Ramapo Valley Railroad. Looking for more late autumn outings? Bundle up for a Fall Bird Walk at Liberty State Park or drop by the Princeton Art Museum for their monthly Art for Families program. Festival of the Trees Family Day (Andover, NJ)
The Junior Woman's Club of Sparta is hosting this special holiday event featuring a display of over 20 beautifully hand-decorated Christmas trees. Pre-decorated wreaths are available for sale, along with an impressive array of tricky trays, a huge bake sale, family entertainment and, of course, a visit from Santa!

Fall Bird Walk (Jersey City, NJ)
Bundle up in cozy autumn sweaters and head to Liberty State Park for a leisurely bird walk. Your group will learn identify the birds that visit for the fall in the surrounding trees while taking in awesome views of the Statue of Liberty across the Hudson. Don’t forget binoculars!

Art for Families: Don’t Eat My Pears (Princeton, NJ)
Join Princeton University for family fun in the Art Museum. Drop in anytime and enjoy an engaging gallery activity followed by a related art project. This week, kids will explore Paul Cezanne's use of basic shapes and forms, and use these elements to create their own colorful composition.

Dr. Seuss’ The Cat in the Hat (Wayne, NJ)
This delightful family production at the Shea Performing Arts Center is based on the beloved book by Dr. Seuss. Kids will love the non-stop antics, from the minute Sally and her brother open the door to meet the mischievous Cat in the Hat.

MythBusters: Jamie & Adam Unleashed (Newark, NJ)
The all-new, live stage show MythBusters, starring Jamie Hyneman and Adam Savage, co-hosts of the Emmy-nominated Discovery series MythBusters, promises to be an unexpected evening of on-stage experiments, audience participation, rocking video and behind-the-scenes stories.

Thanksgiving Centerpiece (Morristown, NJ)
Kids will use fresh flowers, greens, a special decorated candle and their creativity to design and craft a Williamsburg-style Thanksgiving centerpiece at the Frelinghuysen Arboretum. A great activity to get children involved with something of their own to place on the holiday table!

Holiday Model Train Show (Ho-Ho-Kus, NJ)
The Ramapo Valley Railroad in Ho-Ho-Kus is hosting a huge Holiday Train Show, open to the public. The massive model train layout features dozens of running trains, an operating drive-in movie theater, windmill farm, cities, mountains, bridges, tunnels, farms, industry yards and an operating roundhouse.
