Weekday Picks for Connecticut Kids: Zumba, Winter Wonderland, and Basketball Art, January 19-23
Earlier this month we kicked off 2015 with a new feature to help you enjoy even more fun activities with your kids. In addition to our weekend events round-ups, every Monday we'll share weekday activity picks to enjoy Monday through Friday. We've also added an additional newsletter so our subscribers will get the new weekday events right in their inbox Monday mornings. Not a subscriber? Sign up now!
This week starts off with an extra long weekend and many events across the state to honor Martin Luther King. Then we've rounded up a toddler tour, a little Zumba, a Winter Wonderland, and more! Of course, we have loads of events listed every day in our events calendar so please check it out. If that midweek snow arrives, be sure to check out our guide to Hartford County Sledding Hills. Have fun!
OUR LATEST VIDEOS
Monday, January 19th: Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.'s Legacy of Environmental and Social Justice, Yale Peabody Museum (New Haven County). One of the many events held in honor of Martin Luther King, this celebration includes free admission to the Peabody Museum, where there will be performances by members of the New Haven community and from around the world, interactive displays of the local natural environment, children’s storytelling, and a participatory drum circle. (Click here for a complete list of events celebrating Martin Luther King's birthday across the state.)
Tuesday, January 20th: Tuesday Toddler Tour, Bruce Museum (Fairfield County). Children age 3 - 5 are invited to explore the Museum's collections and exhibitions through picture books and hands-on activities. This week's focus is "Amazing Minerals." Special bonus: museum admission is free on Tuesdays!
Wednesday, January 21st: Zumba on the Stage, Ridgefield Playhouse (Fairfield County). Older kids (age 16+) are invited to join instructors from The Gym for a fun dance workout up on the main stage. There will also be treats from the wonderful Swoon bakery.
Thursday, January 22nd: Winter Wonderland, Imagine Nation Museum (Hartford County). Celebrate the wonders of the winter season by creating paper snowflakes, playing with icy cold snow slime, and joining in a Penguin Parade!
Friday, January 23rd: In the Paint: Basketball in Contemporary Art, William Benton Museum of Art at UConn in Storrs (Tolland County). Basketball players and fans will enjoy this new exhibition that features artworks in a variety of media that explore the world of basketball. Performance, competition, and spectacle are central themes in the work of these contemporary artists.
