After a rainy and chilly spring, I think it’s safe to say that most of us are jumping for joy that summer is finally here! Get a head start on summertime activities this weekend, whether you try your hand out with bait and a pole during My First Fish at Turkey Swamp Park, bring the whole gang to watch jugglers and sword fights at the NJ Renaissance Faire or venture down south to the Horseshoe Crab Festival in Fortescue. Looking for a little entertainment? New Jersey Renaissance Faire (Bordentown, NJ)
Entertainment abounds at the New Jersey Renaissance Faire - be dazzled by authentic costumes, meet jugglers & minstrels and watch professional comedy troupes, live music and kid’s dance shows too. Also be sure and check out the sword fighters, artisan crafts and local NJ food vendors.

West Side Story (New Brunswick, NJ)
From the first note to the last dramatic scene, West Side Story is considered one of the greatest musical love stories of all time. Older kids and their families can sit back at the State Theatre and watch the amazing choreography and classic songs as a love story unfolds amid the conflict of the Sharks and Jets.

My First Fish (Freehold, NJ)
Have you seen the look on a child’s face when they catch that first fish? Let one of the Naturalists at Turkey Swamp Park help you and your child land that first big one! There will be hands on instruction and lots of fun stories to share. The program is catch and release with all equipment provided.

Horseshoe Crab Festival (Fortescue, NJ)
If you’re up for making the trip down to this quaint little town in Southern Jersey along the Delaware River, check out their beach-y and fun Horseshoe Crab Festival this Saturday. Take a guided beach stroll with the whole gang (and spot some horseshoe crabs!), kick back and listen to live music and snack on fresh seafood.

Bobby Beetcut – Family Concert (South Orange, NJ)
Bobby Beetcut at the South Orange Performing Arts Center offers fun and funky music that parents will enjoy just as much as the kids. Long awaited by music lovers, Bobby Beetcut brings the experience of a true artist to children and their families with messages of self-empowerment.

Discovery Saturdays (Summit, NJ)
Head to the Reeves-Reed Arboretum for their last springtime installment of Discovery Saturdays. Learn all about fascinating flowers and remarkable pollinators during their Honeybee program – the kiddos will hear stories, make a craft and then get to explore the arboretum’s grounds as they discover seasonal insects and plants.

Superhero Fun Run (Colts Neck, NJ)
Grab your cape and assemble your superhero squad for a thrilling adventure through Dorbrook Park! This one-mile fun run is anything but ordinary as you put your bravery, brainpower and superhero abilities on the line. Friendly and fun obstacles will have the whole family working together to save the day – don’t forget to come dressed as your favorite superhero!

Strawberry Pancake Breakfast (Chester, NJ)
Nothing says summer like a morning on the farm filled with fresh picked strawberries! Alstede Farms is hosting their annual Strawberry Pancake Breakfast complete with fluffy flapjacks, bacon, eggs and more. Top off the morning with a wagon ride around the farm and a visit to their bountiful country store.

Guided Nature Walk (Tenafly, NJ)
Now that the trees are finally lush and green again, enjoy an early summertime walk at the family-friendly Tenafly Nature Center. Your nature guide will gear the walk towards the ages in the group, pointing out seasonal flora and fauna along the way. After your guided walk, grab a trail map and spend a couple more hours exploring the beautiful grounds on your own.
