Mostly Free and Fun Things To Do With Kids This Weekend May 4-5: Festivals, Free Admissions, Live Music & Cinco de Mayo

Now that the weather is getting warmer, it can be dizzying trying to figure out what to do with the kids. The options are endless, and thanks to Mommy Poppins CT, we help you break it down. Our list of Best Things to Do in Connecticut: May 2013 will help you plan your calendar for the month so you don't miss any of the fun happenings around the state.

This weekend New Haven's Green will be hosting a May Day Concert for Peace. Free live music from hip-hop to punk, along with children's activities such as face painting, circus presentations and art projects. If you want some more entertainment, take the bus to the concert and enjoy live musical performances on five select bus routes. Exact Change will make riding public transportation a real treat for your little ones. 

Spring's splendor comes alive when the dogwoods bloom. Enjoy thousands of trees, things to do for kids, bbq, dance, fun run, art show and more at Greenfield Hills Congregational Church's 78th Annual Dogwood Festival in Fairfield. For a fun night out in Litchfield County, sans kids, don't miss Washington Montessori's Into the Garden Auction this Saturday night. Cocktails, dinner and plenty of fabulous auction prizes will be on display at this annual fundraiser and social event.

The Strawberry Festival in Washington is a traditional Native American celebration. Games, music, food are a part of this free event. Bring a picnic and purchase yummy strawberry drinks and desserts. To learn more about Native American history and culture, check out the Mashantucket Pequot Museum where Saturday is Free Admission for Kids. Florence Griswold Museum in Old Lyme also has free entry the same day. Enjoy the art, history, and nature while the children play games and make crafts. 

Meet animals and learn about nature at the New Britain Youth Museum's Family Earth Day Celebration. Bishops Orchard in Guilford is hosting a Donkey and Mule Festival. Free wagon rides, apple trees in bloom, face painting, crafts and food and wine tastings are included in this free event. Enjoy live music, food and canoe rides on the banks of the Quinnipiac River at New Haven's Riverfest . Immerse yourself in Brazilian music and culture at Samba Fest on Hartford's Mortensen Riverfront Plaza. 

Sunday is May 5th, or Cinco de Mayo. Instead of spending the day guzzling margaritas like you may have done before having a family, take your children to Fiesta! Celebrate Hispanic Holidays and Cultures at the South Norwalk Library. Make maracas, enjoy Mexican music and dances and take a swing at the pinata to commemorate Mexico's independence. 

Some family favorite TV shows come to life this weekend. Sesame Street Live: Elmo's Super Heroes! will be at the Bushnell in Hartford , Super WHY is at the Oakdale Theatre in Wallingford, and Greenwich Country Day School hosts Dora's Pirate Adventure.  "Clifford the Big Red Dog" will be on hand to greet visitors at Quassy Amusement Park's Ready to Read Weekend. The celebration kicks off the annual summer reading program, and the whole car (up to 10 people) can get in for only $35. 

MACC Charities in Manchester is hosting a Bring on Spring event where kids can enjoy art, games, live music and more. MACC provides food, clothing, shelter and advocacy for those in the community. Please bring non-perishable food items to help their cause. While you are in Manchester, head over to Wickham Park to enjoy the beautiful 250 acres of gardens, fields, ponds, playgrounds and more. Mother's Day is next weekend and on Sunday the Southeastern Children's Museum in Niantic is hosting a Family Workshop where you can make a special gift for mom.
