We all know that reading to our children is important. For starters, fostering a love for reading enhances basic speech and communication skills, stimulates their imagination and expands their understanding of the world. Knowledge is power and books offer plenty of it. And where better to find books but the library. We have rounded up a list of the some of the best story time programs for your budding bookworms at local libraries throughout Fairfield County.

1.  Greenwich Library - Greenwich
With a comprehensive story time schedule, the Greenwich Library offers a host of drop-in toddler story times ranging from baby lapsit to toddlers and wee ones with simple stories, songs and fingerplays. There are options for preschoolers, a Spanish story time, and even a bedtime story time where children are invited to wear their pajamas.  Or, head to the Cos Cob branch of the library on select weekday afternoons for the R.E.A.D to a Dog program with Otis and Cinder, the library's brother and sister book-loving canine duo.

2. Wilton Library - Wilton
From Sign, Say and Play, teaching caregivers and children from six months to the toddler stage everyday sign language to Build a Story for afternoon story time with Lego building, the Wilton Library offers a range of story times for children. The library has also partnered with the Maritime Aquarium with a Sound Explorers afterschool science program teaching children in grades 3-5 about marine biology in the Long Island Sound and how to make a difference in the environment.

3. Norwalk Library - Norwalk
Packed with programs like Reading Adventurers, Robotic Wednesdays and Tunes & Tales, the Norwalk library offers children's programming nearly everyday of the week. From Zumba to Super Science, Little Legos to Chess for Kids, the library's comprehensive children's calendar offers something for everyone.

4. Pequot Library - Southport
Waddle to nursery rhymes, sing a few songs and take home crafts at Pequot Library's weekly story times for babies, toddlers, and preschoolers.

5. Easton Public Library - Easton
Explore the wonders of books in Easton's story time programs with plenty of music, movement, and finger plays for toddlers and preschoolers. From Toddler Bebop to Preschool Music Fun and Tail Waggin' Tutors, a program allowing kids to read to a certified therapy dog, the Easton Library offers plenty of weekly programs.

6. Bridgeport Public Library - Bridgeport
Offering weekly arts and crafts for kids with the Artsy Mom, stories, rhymes and movement at Play and Tell with Miss Michele, and games of all kinds at Fun Fridays, The Bridgeport Library offers a well-rounded Children's program. The library also offers a monthly parent and child book discussion, Saturday morning movies and online language learning programs for kids.

7. Westport Public Library - Westport
The Kids! Calendar at the Westport Public Library is packed with programs for all ages. Ongoing programs including Toddler Mother Goose, Rhythm and Rhyme, and Storybook Art. The library also hosts a monthly Family Maker Art workshop, a Tinker Shop, and Friday films.

8. Ridgefield Library - Ridgefield
For kids of all ages, the Ridgefield Library offers story time programs, craft workshops, and music and movement specials. For babies and toddlers, programs focus on language enrichment, finger plays and movement while programs for older children encourage reading readiness, offer book discussions, and even book bingo.

9. Darien Library - Darien
From  baby lap time to toddler tales to bookworms, The Darien Library offers programs to foster a love of reading from an early age.

10. Mark Twain Library - Redding
With nearly a dozen story time sessions ranging from baby and toddler to 1st-3rd-graders, the Mark Twain Library has plenty of weekly offerings. The library also sponsors holiday-themed and monthly pajama story times throughout the month.

11. Ferguson Library - Stamford
The Ferguson library offers participatory story time for a wide age-range of toddlers with finger plays, stories and movement activities at the library's toddler time. A pajama storytime is offered for children age 3 1/2 and up and a special story time for children age 5,6 and 7 are offered on Wednesday afternoons. A music-making program with the library's own Dr. Ev is offered for children ages 5 and under with a caregiver.

12. Fairfield Public Library - Fairfield
A host of drop-in story time programs are offered at the Fairfield Library ranging from baby rhyme time to walking rhymers. Additional programs including S.T.E.M Stars for children ages 3-5  to investigate and discover S.T.E.M themes or How to Tell a Story for children in grades K-1 using dice, prompts, and play to learn the craft of storytelling require registration.

13. New Canaan Library - New Canaan
Nearly everyday of the week brings a new story time or program at the New Canaan Library. With Book Babies, Kid Creator's or Crazy 8's Club, the library hosts children from birth through seventh grade through a variety of programs. Become a detective in the art gallery, raise a confident math student or join the hummingbird robotics mini camp.

14. Edith Wheeler Memorial Library - Monroe
Drop by the library to unleash your creative side at Edith Wheeler's many program offerings like Creative Kids, Creative Space or the Preschool Lab. The library also has a certified therapy dog for kids in grades K-3 to practice their reading skills on.

15. Derby Neck Library - Derby
In addition to Derby Library's weekly story time programs, the library offers a mommy & me art-based program, several musical programs with games, and introduction to instruments and science for toddlers with experiments and crafts for ages 3 and up.

16. Danbury Library - Danbury
Baby & Me Lap Sit, Terrific Toddlers, Fun Fridays, and Saturday Stories are a few of the children's programs offered at the Danbury Library for children age 23 months-7 years.
