Summer School Camps in Northwest Connecticut

If you are thinking that summer school might be a good idea for your child the first thing you must do is ask them how they feel about it. It should be a rewarding and enjoyable experience for them (and you!). For children with LD's, special interests or just a plain old love of academics, summer school can be a proactive way to spend time. We've rounded up a few options that are either day or sleep-away as well as tutoring centers. Many of these campuses offer a traditional New England boarding school experience which can be an added bonus!

Chase Collegiate Summer School, Waterbury, CT
Summer Studies and Enrichment - Indulge a student's love of writing, while raising his or her aptitude in Spanish. Begin the adventure of learning with lower school math.  Improve study skills or test taking strategies. Classes are small (4-12 students) and run for 90 minutes for 4 weeks.

Hotchkiss School-Summer Portals, Lakeville, CT
Class ratio is 3:1. Students come from all over the world and all sorts of backgrounds. Hotchkiss Summer Portals is all about learning through doing. If you're between twelve and fifteen years old and you're interested in chamber music (instrumental or voice) or environmental science, then this camp is particularly for you.

Taft Summer School, Watertown, CT
Their young scholar program is for 7-9th graders looking to prepare for the challenges of rigorous secondary programs. The program is for 5 weeks and they have a boarding or day student option.

Kildonan School - Amenia, NY
Dunnabeck at Kildonan, the oldest residential program of its kind, was established in 1955 to meet the needs in a camp setting of intelligent children who are underachieving or failing in their academic work because of dyslexia or language based learning differences. Camp runs for 6 weeks for children age 8-16. Camp activities develop self-confidence and creativity since failure in school seems to inhibit creativity as well as erode confidence.

Huntington Learning Center
With locations across the country and in Enfield, Simsbury and Westport Huntington can help your child catch up or prepare over the summer. Whether they need help with math, reading, writing, or SAT prep they can set up a schedule and help your child.

Lindamood Bell Learning Centers
Their programs teach the necessary skills for reading, spelling and comprehension. For children who are having  difficulty with learning they offer one-to-one tutoring for typically 6 weeks.

Wooster Summer School, Danbury, CT
The Wooster School offers different summer programs for different ages. The Summer Prospects program is for 6-14 year olds who would benefit from summer learning and academic strength building. The CT Project is a creative intensive experience for grades 9-12 for a 2 week period. They offer three 2 week sessions with a different focus per session.
