Our Tour of the Brand New Chelsea Piers Connecticut: Opening July 2012 in Stamford
This week we were invited down to tour the new Chelsea Piers facility being built in Stamford. They are still under construction so we had to use our imagination a bit. It was all good. My gang of boys were thrilled to wear the bright yellow hard hats.
We know Chelsea Piers in NYC well. We used to live a bike ride away and have spent many an hour playing soccer, ice skating and attending birthday parties there. When we found out they were expanding to CT we were super excited. 400,000 square feet of sporty fun all under one roof!
We were blown away, as the pictures clearly show the expressions on the boys' faces. Two Ice Skating rinks with a heated sitting area for parents as well as a restaurant that looks out onto the rink! A trampoline park and rock climbing wall - yes, a large area that has a trampoline as the floor! A ball pit, huge gymnastics area, an Olympic sized swimming pool that includes a hydraulic floor that can be lifted or lowered to your desired height. A water slide area that even the grown ups want to play in. Soccer, basketball, squash, tennis, water polo, volleyball you name it. They've got it.

I was particularly impressed with the amount of generously sized party rooms they have. My son begged to have his birthday party there in December. Tip: People are already booking so go ahead. They are taking reservations now and I promise this will be one of the hottest birthday party tickets in 2012!
Those lucky enough to live a commutable distance from the center can enroll their toddlers in their childcare and preschool program. It's located in the complex and the children will utilize the athletic facility. I peeked in to see the classrooms as they laid the carpet. Beautiful and nicely designed. They offer a flexible 2, 3 or 5 day program for 3 month - 5 year olds.
They open in July and have an entire summer camp program set up which they are currently taking enrollment for. They have preschool camps, sports intensive camps and elite training camps for all ages.
This place ROCKS and I for one am grateful that Chelsea Piers has come to Connecticut. Another bonus, Stamford's Children's Hospital will be in a new space within the complex. The architect, fellow Connecticut resident James G. Rogers has created an incredible and beautiful facility. It will undoubtedly provide many years of athletic fun as well as state of the art training for countless Nutmeggers. Can't wait for July to get here!
