Things to Do Labor Day Weekend With Chicago Kids: Taste of Polonia, Circus, Fall Fests
Labor Day weekend is a last, sweet taste of summer for Chicago families. Fitting enough, then, that the weekend is packed with delicious food festivals and fairs, including the annual Taste of Polonia, with pierogis, performances, and a play area for kids, Elmhurst's 'Cue for a Cause barbecue competition, and the Great American Lobster Fest at Navy Pier, with music, activities, and tasty crustaceans.
This may be a good weekend to blow the kids' bedtime for a last late-night hurrah, like the final summer fireworks show on the lake, or the jaw-dropping lineup of concerts at the Jazz Festival. But despite what the name might suggest, Midnight Circus in the Parks performs in the afternoon at McKinley Park this weekend (and is coming soon to a park near you, with Foster Park next on the schedule).
And that's just the start of the family-friendly fun on the Labor Day weekend calendar. There's the Alley Art Festival in Aurora, the African Festival of the Arts in Washington Park, and end-of-summer, start-of-fall celebrations in Naperville, Frankfort, Geneva, and Schaumburg, plus, living history comes to Oak Brook with a Civil War encampment taking over Graue Mill.
Give your swimsuits one last workout at the beach, pool, or spray park, tick a few more items off your summer bucket list, and then get ready for fall: Apple picking season is already underway at orchards around Chicago, and our event calendar is filling up with fall fun. Have a great holiday weekend!
