One perk of raising children in the DC area is the volume of high-quality classes for kids. If you have a budding ballerina or Baryshnikov—or a kid who wants to learn some smooth K-pop moves at an area dance class—have no fear. We have all the info on dance classes for kids and toddlers near DC.

Ballet Classes 

The Washington School of Ballet 

This dance studio in Woodley Park offers ballet programs for students ages 5-19 from September to June. Students enrolled in levels Pre Ballet 3 and up can audition for the company production of The Nutcracker, with performances at the Warner Theatre. Online classes may also be available.

Maryland Youth Ballet — Silver Spring

The beauty of ballet, and the discipline required to express it, are at the forefront of classes at Maryland Youth Ballet. The program begins with early dance and introductory classes for ages 2 and older. Serious dancers progress to the pre-professional program, where pointe work is introduced for girls and supplemental classes in jazz, modern dance, and flamenco are available.

Ballet, Hip Hop, and Movement Classes 

Dance Place 

Dance Place in University Heights offers ballet classes for kids ages 4 and older, as well as tap, hip hop and other classes for ages 6 and up. There are also creative movement classes for little ones ages 3-5. 

Joy of Motion 

Classes at Joy of Motion in northeast DC are designed for students ages 2 and up who want to learn about a style while building their technical prowess. Disciplines include ballet, jazz, and tap, with a special creative movement program, Kidmotion, for little ones ages 2-5.

Tiny Dancers — Alexandria and Fairfax, Virginia

Tiny Dancers' three Northern Virginia locations—one in Alexandria and two in Fairfax—offer in-person ballet, tap, jazz, hip hop, and musical theater classes for ages 3 and up. The studios also offer Wiggletoes classes for ages 2-3.

All2Dance 

All2Dance in Georgetown offers creative movement, pre-ballet, and tap classes for preschoolers, as well as ballet, jazz, and tap for ages 5 and older. Private group classes can also be arranged.

Adrenaline Studio — Vienna, Virginia

This studio has a huge portfolio of dance programs, from beginner ballet to advanced hip hop and beyond, including competition dance teams. Masks must be worn at all times, and COVID guidelines are strictly followed.

Born 2 Dance — Vienna and Arlington, Virginia

Dance Academy of Virginia — McLean

The Dance Academy of Virginia offers classes in ballet, jazz, contemporary, tap, hip hop, and lyrical for all ages and experience levels. Private classes are also available.

BalletNova Center for Dance — Falls Church, Virginia

Little dancers can sign up for story ballet workshop, pre-ballet, and ballet classes at BalletNova. Older kids can choose from a class menu that includes ballet, tap, jazz, modern, and hip hop. BalletNova also has a popular Young Men's Program for boys ages 7-12.

City Dance Pop! — Cleveland Park and Bethesda, Maryland

City Dance offers a well-rounded curriculum of Vaganova ballet training and contemporary dance techniques rounded out by jazz, hip hop and world dance forms taught by renowned faculty. Students ages 3 and older are welcome.
