Awesome Things To Do in Philly this Weekend with Kids: Museums, Outdoors, Nature

There is a lot of good news in the Delaware Valley. With vaccine approval for children ages 12-15, more vaccinations being distributed, and a decrease in COVID cases, the state has updated its mask wearing rules for vaccinated people and more restrictions are anticipated to lighten by mid-June. As expected, local venues are adapting to this new guidance and more events are popping into our events calendar for families to enjoy.

Start off the weekend Friday evening by viewing the artwork at the Philadelphia Museum of Art while taking advantage of the Pay What You Wish option or burn off some calories while learning a bit of history during Warwick County Park's History Hike. Wake up early Saturday to search for birds at Nottingham County Park, Peace Valley Nature Center, or John James Audubon Center. Pause to hear Griot Tales at Franklin Square and stories by author Greg Pizzoli at East Passyunk Avenue. Or, stroll along the streets of Kennett Square while reading It's Not Mean to be Green by Jamie Kleman. Wrap up on Sunday with a train ride aboard Colebrookdale's Secret Valley Expedition, fly fishing and casting at Hibernia Park, and a Memorial Day Parade to honor those who lost their lives while serving in the United States Armed Forces.

Other fun includes Dorney Park welcoming guests for the new season, Mercer Museum opening its newest exhibit, Measurement Rules, and Elfreth's Alley Museum reopening this month. Have a great weekend!

As COVID circumstances unfold, check directly with a venue website for updates before heading out. Keep your family and others safe by wearing masks and maintaining social distancing measures. If an event appears too crowded, try using the “nearby” search feature on our events calendar to find other exciting options. Note: Some photos in this post are from prior to the pandemic.
