Take advantage of the amazing fall weather this weekend with our pick of the best free outdoor kids events. Find out where you can hear They Might Be Giants, the coolest weekend activity for four-year-olds and why now is the time to hop on the Roosevelt Island tram. Great Children's Read - the NY Times and NY's Public Libraries establishes the list of Favorite New York City Stories and is holding this event to celebrate. In addition to an awesome line up of people that will read from the 20 books on the list there will also be tons more entertainment including Common, They Might Be Giants, Yo Gabba Gabba and Lisa Loeb. Rain or shine on Sunday, October 5th 10AM - 5PM. Columbia University, Broadway & 116th Street. FREE.

Rock Out on Roosevelt Island - Listen to kid band the Deedle Deedle Dees and get your bouncy ride fix at the Riverwalk Commons on Roosevelt Island. And of course, the tram ride itself is reason enough to head out there. Saturday 2-4PM. FREE

The Atlantic Antic – join as Atlantic Avenue turns into a huge festival with 10 live musical stages and one especially for kids that will feature acts like Brooklyn Music School Dancers and Musicians (11:00AM) and Graciela Carriqui innovator of 'Musica Para Mi' (1:00PM). Also coinciding with the festival this year is the NY Transit Museum Bus Festival which will bring a collection of vintage buses dating back to 1917. Atlantic Avenue from Hicks St. to Fourth Avenue. Sunday, 10AM – 6PM FREE

Open House NY - the 6th annual weekend celebration of New York City’s built-environment boasts tours and walks all over the city.  OHKids hosts a long list of events this weekend from exploring green roofs to historic Red Hook to the gargoyles of City College, check out their website for details.  Saturday and Sunday various times.  FREE.

Tours for Fours - You're in luck if you have a 4 year old. Every weekend, MOMA holds a free program especially designed for four-year-olds with interactive gallery activities. Each month they select a new theme, for October its looking at line and November is Body Language. MOMA - the Cullman Education and Research Building (4 West 54th Street). Saturdays and Sundays, 10:20–11:15 a.m. FREE for families of two adults and up to three children (younger siblings can attend but you must have at least one four year old). No preregistration but its first come first serve so plan to get there a bit before 10AM. FREE.

Also, for museum goers of any age, head over to First Saturdays for Families at the New Museum. This week the focus will be on the Bowery and families will create their own works of art based on their neighborhood. The New Museum, 235 Bowery. Designed for children 5 to 15 years old. Tickets are given out Saturday from 10 AM - Noon (includes admission for up to 3 adults). FREE.

Goody Two Shoes
- enter an entire universe of punk rock fun for kids and parents to enjoy together. In addition to the music you want to hear, there will be old school Sit-n-Spins, glittery hula hoops and "Baby's First Tattoo" parlor. Kids can feast on old-school snacks while parents enjoy something a little more grown up from the bar. Special Mommy Poppins Discount – get your tickets for $10 online (rather than $20 at the door) when you go to the website and use discount code “poppins”.
