While everyone out there tries to remind us to keep on consuming to save the economy, I just don't buy it. In contrast, Obama's announcement of of his public works program on Saturday feels exciting. He is talking about about things like improving schools, providing universal broadband access and creating programs to increase energy efficiency. I can't help it, the guy makes me feel hopeful!

Toxic Toys. NPR reports on a study that found toxins in one-third of toys tested one piece of advice, throw away all the cheap children's jewelry which is five times as likely to have elevated levels of lead. Parenting Perspective. Whenever parenting feels overwhelming, I like to think about the Duggers who have 17 kids and are expecting. Their new show aptly titled 17 and Counting is on TLC on Monday nights at 10pm and offers some solid parenting tips, none of which are particularly relevant for my tiny family but none the less, fascinating. And, check out the Dugger family site for recipes for their family favorites like Tater Tot Casarole.
