Governors Island to Stay Open Year-Round
Big news, New Yorkers: Governors Island, our long-time favorite summer-only destination, is now open year-round. Its expanded schedule was announced Tuesday by Mayor Bill de Blasio and the Trust for Governors Island.
While the big summer season comes to a close on Sunday, October 31, the new NYC Ferry service begins the very next day, allowing New Yorkers to enjoy the 43-acre isle 365 days a year.

“The COVID-19 pandemic has created an unprecedented opportunity to reimagine public space in this city—and now, we’re proud to keep the crown jewel of our harbor open to New Yorkers all year round,” said de Blasio in making the announcement. “From expanded ferry service, to more amenities than ever, to year-round visitors from all over the city, there’s no better time to experience and invest in Governors Island.”
Visitors wishing to explore Governors Island can catch the NYC Ferry's South Brooklyn Route beginning November 1. Ferries will dock at Governors Island's Yankee Pier, offering service from Red Hook, Atlantic Avenue/Brooklyn Bridge Park-Pier 6, Dumbo/Fulton Ferry, and Corlears Hook on the Lower East Side.
Exactly what programming will be available in the offseason is yet to be announced, but visitors can look forward to seeing four seasons worth of natural splendor in the park.
