This year we're looking for ways to cut the sugar intake of our kids on Halloween a little bit, like with this idea we had to give away toys rather than candy. But if you're going to do candy, you might as well do it right, right? Here are a couple of tips on some places that are giving away the good stuff. Skip the bite-sized Snickers and read on to find out how to score fancy chocolates, cookies, and even some candy gelato.

Free Maison du Chocolat—Kids under 13 can stop by this top notch chocolatery on Halloween from 4-6pm for a dark or milk chocolate bar to DIE for. Three Locations: 1018 Madison Avenue, 30 Rockefeller Centrer, or 63 Wall Street

Free Screme Gelato—Screme gelato café will be offering a free small candy-flavored gelato to kids under 12 who come trick-or-treating in costume on Halloween Day. Candy flavors include Twix, Snickers, Kit Kat, Reese’s Pieces, and more. Located in Madame Tussauds (234 West 42nd Street – btwn. 7th and 8th Avenue)

Free Fancy Cookies—The high-end restaurants and bakeries of Tribeca don't hold back on Halloween. Stop by Duane Park Patisserie (179 Duane St) and Bouley Bakery (130 W Broadway) for fine, home made cookies, then head up Greenwich for some Japanese candies from Nobu (105 Hudson). For most of us, it's the closest we'll ever get to eating there. Trick or Treating in Tribeca usually takes place as the kids are leaving the parade and party in Washington Market Park, so I'm guessing early afternoon this year.
