Pixar Putt Brings Fun Mini-Golf Course to Battery Park for Limited Run

8/16/21 - By Jody Mercier

Pixar fans take note: You can now interact with some of your favorite movie scenes thanks to Pixar Putt, an immersive, interactive, pop-up mini-golf experience that's taken over Pier A in Battery Park for a limited time.

I recently played the 18-hole course with my trio of kids, and we've got a sneak peek at the fun that awaits. Whether you want to walk in the shoes of The Good Dinosaur, sail away with Up, or whack a golf ball a little too hard at a creepy Benson doll bust, Pixar Putt is a fun addition to the city's mini-golf scene, but act fast: Your favorite characters are only in town until Halloween.

Drawing creative inspiration from Pixar's suite of flicks, Pixar Putt takes you on an 18-hole journey that's a walk down memory lane.

We loved reliving scenes from long-forgotten childhood favorites and remembering which movies were really created by the famed studio.

The 18-hole course is divided into two halves, and visitors, who must have a pre-purchased timed-entry ticket, can start their play on either section—a model that helps promote social distancing. Additionally, there's only a limited number of foursomes allowed on the course at any given time, and hand sanitizing dispensers are plentiful.

One thing that's not plentiful is shade, but several large umbrellas provided respite on a sweltering afternoon.

Some of the creative holes at Pixar Putt employ no putters to hit the pin.

The course was a mix of challenging, traditional putt-putt obstacles and fun, quirky features. My 8-year-old swelled with pride after getting a hole-in-one on a Soul-themed hole which required no putter, simply manipulating piano keys to guide her ball downhill toward the pin. Other holes were much more challenging, making it a fun excursion even for my 15-year-old.

A soundtrack of memorable tunes from the movies added to the ambiance and had us happily bopping along the whole time. Photo ops are also plentiful, so be ready to snap a few fun pics with the course, characters, and props.
