Long Island Kids' Activities March 21-22: Egg-stravaganzas, St. Patrick's Day Celebrations, Live Plays, Family Sundays & More
Spring officially arrives this weekend, and while we're still waiting for the warmer weather to make an appearance, there is plenty to do across the Island. Catch a play in Smithtown or Bellmore, head out on the high seas on a seal cruise out of Freeport or enjoy some hands on science learning in Port Jefferson. Long Island has it all for families.

Elephant & Piggies "We Are in a Play" - Smithtown. This musical experience is ripped from the pages of Mo Willems's children's book. Runs through April 11. Cost: $15.
Constructing With Crystals- Port Jefferson. At the Maritime Explorium, kids can build their own ice house with sugar cubes. Cost: $5/person.
Weekend Workshop - Sayville. Each weekend a dedicated instructor at Mini Monet will lead your child in a craft/creation. Cost: $15.
Seal Cruise - Freeport. Hop aboard the Captain Lou in Freeport, hosted by the Riverhead Foundation to search for harbor seals and other mammal life. Runs through April 12. Cost: $19-$26.
Messy Afternoons at LICM – Garden City. At the Long Island Children’s Museum, all weekend long. Cost: Free with museum admission.
Explorer Family Backpacks – Uniondale. Pick up a backpack and explore the world through this Hofstra University gallery. Cost: Free.
Saturday, March 21
Spring Eggstravaganza - Garden City. At the Long Island Children's Museum, meet Peter Cottontail, explore egg decorating and enjoy egg relays and face painting. Performers from National Circus Project will be in the LICM Theater showing off their “eggcellent” clowning, juggling, spinning and balancing skills. Showtimes are 6:15pm, 7pm and 7:45pm. Cost: $10 or $14 for admission + show.
Annual Egg-stravaganza - Oyster Bay. At the Theodore Roosevelt Sanctuary and Audobon Center, enjoy this egg hunt. Session 1: 10:30am-11:30am (toddlers only); Session 2: 12:30pm-1:30pm (kids 4-10); Session 3: 2:30pm-3:30pm (kids 4-10) plus crafts. Cost: Members $6 per child/Nonmembers $10 per child Adults - $2.
Creating Fairy Houses - East Islip. At the Suffolk County Environmental Center. Even fairies need homes, right? Build imaginative fairy houses around the property with sticks, stones and other natural materials you find. Who knows what else you'll see along the way! Cost: $4 members/$8 non-members.
St. Patrick's Day Celebration - Old Bethpage. Irish entertainment will include the Irish Rock Bands: The Sporting Paddies and The McCools, Noel McAtasney, and Nancy Hirten. Traditional Irish food and beverages will be offered and Irish merchandise will be available for purchase at the Fairgrounds Building and the Noon Inn. There will also be a Birds of Prey presentation from Tackapausha Museum. Cost: Free.
Meet Cinderella - Wantagh. At Divas N Dolls, children can enjoy a princess party with craft, manicures, make up and tattoos. Bagels and juice included. Cost: $29.99.
The Wizard of Oz - Bellmore. Live production at The Showplace. Runs through March 29. Cost: Tickets are $10.
St. Patrick's Day Parade - Rockville Centre. Cheer along the parade route as marchers, fire departments, bag pipers, Irish step dancers and more march along. Cost: Free.
The Bambini Ball - Sag Harbor. At Goat on a Boat Puppet Threatre. There will be music, snacks, puppet shows and games for young and old alike, so bring the whole family and have a Bambini Ball with Goat on a Boat. The Bambini Ball is a family FUNdraiser. Cost: $30 for adults, $10 for children.
Firebird - Ronkonkoma. At the Long Island Ballet. Cost: $9-18.
Science Saturday at the Long Island Science Center – Riverhead. Enjoy a day at the Long Island Science Center. Cost: $5/person.
Sunday, March 22
Thar She Blows Family Day - Cold Spring Harbor. At The Cold Spring Harbor Whaling Museum, visitors of all ages can carve scrimshaw art to take home, hear live sea shanties and historical tunes, touch artifacts from the collection up close, create at our craft stations and get their faces painted. Cost: $8 Child. Adults Regular Admission. Family-Level Members $5 Child. Face Painting $4; Admission includes all else.
Mommy & Me Paint Class: Bumble Bee - Bellmore. At As You Wish, mommy and child will get to paint a canvas. Cost: $39/couple.
Breakfast With the Easter Bunny Egg Hunt - Great Neck. At Pump It Up Great Neck, kids will have 80 minutes to bounce, play, search and collect exactly 6 Easter Eggs hidden around the arenas and inside the gigantic inflatables. Cost: $19.95/child. $3.95 optional food add on option per person.
MommaCon - Brookville. An expo for families, MommaCon has vendors for camps, party places, children's entertainment and more. Cost: $5 person.
Family Sundays at the Museum - Roslyn. Weekly events for families at the Nassau County Museum of Art.
Seatuck Family Nature Club - Islip. These programs will be geared around the current season and include topics such as seasonal birds, tremendous trees and signs of the season. Cost: Free.
Lego Club - Bridgehampton. Enjoy two hours of Lego fun every Sunday at the Children's Museum of the East End. Cost: $10/admission.
Sunday Kids Club - East Hampton. Drop off kids for a 9am-12pm kids camp at Hampton Kids. Cost: $30-40.
