If you have a little adventure seeker that loves the outdoors and summer activities then you should head out onto the water and try out canoeing, kayaking or paddle boarding. It could be an exciting new adventure to try out with the family this summer! There are a few choices to explore right here in Hartford County including a post we did about canoeing down the Farmington River. Excursion companies all over the state will take you out on exciting adventures.

Eastern Mountain Sports - Avon
EMS offers a variety of options to assist you on your next excursion. They have kayak rental, an in-store service shop and fun events to participate in like group guided trips.

Collinsville Canoe & Kayak - Collinsville
This well-established store and excursion company has everything from kayak and canoe lessons to kids programs, guided trips and much more. They have the option to rent equipment or you can check out their retail shop and make a purchase. Also be sure to check the website for fun events that they often host.

Huck Finn Adventures - Collinsville
At Huck Finn you can rent family-size canoes for a calm stroll down a river with a sandy bottom perfect for novice paddlers, families, and large groups. They have both day and night trips as well as a very unique underground float down Park River in Hartford. They rent canoes and kayaks on the Farmington River in Avon and Simsbury, Connecticut as well.

Winding Trails - Farmington
Winding Trails offers two canoeing adventures for kids on all levels of experience.  The basics of canoeing will be reviewed as the kids prepare to go down the Farmington River. They also offer an "Introduction to Boats" class during the summer where students learn basic aquatic skills. Also consider taking their beginning sailing class.

Main Stream Canoes and Kayaks - New Hartford
Main Stream will take you on a river adventure. They have trips from Riverton to New Hartford, flat water trips on the Farmington, upper and lower Farmington River excursions and even moonlight canoe trips. You can rent canoes, kayaks and tandem kayaks as well.

Down Under Canoes, Kayaks and Paddle Boards - Westport
Rent a canoe, Kayak or stand up paddleboard (SUP) to take one of their excursions or send the kids for camp or lessons. Kids programs include "Paddle Dudes," split into two groups (ages 6-8 and 9-12) or "SUP Dawgs" (paddleboarding) which is 12 and up. Kids can also take paddle board lessons.

Clark Outdoors - West Cornwall
Paddle the Housatonic River for a 6 or 10 mile trip. Clark's rents canoes, kayak and rafts. Weekend and weekday trips available. Clark's also offers kayaking lessons.

Farmington River Tubing - New Hartford
Try going down the Farmington River in a tube. During summer, FRT is open every day of the week. Please call the day you wish to tube to check on water and water conditions.
