What's not to love about brunch? A magical marriage of all the best things served up with a mimosa and a slice of cantaloupe, brunch is arguably the most indulgent meal right out of the gate. Maybe that's why it has become something of a tradition to spoil the ladies who work tirelessly making sure everyone is cared for by taking them out to these panoplies of decadence on Mother's Day. We are extra spoiled in Connecticut because of our epic food scene so finding a brunch fit for a queen isn't hard at all. So pick a spot, make a reservation, gussy up the fam and treat mom! She deserves it.
Don't let its small size fool you, this place in the heart of downtown Fairfield serves up a mean brunch. The New York Times has sung its praises and with menu items like a fluffy tempura waffle or a hash bowl featuring duck confit, mom is sure to feel extra spoiled. Did I mention the artisan cocktails? For Mother's Day they will have the usual menu plus decadent specials. Brunch will be served from 11-3 so mom can sleep in a little first. Call ahead for reservations and do bear in mind that it's tight in there. If you have a large party or particularly rambunctious littles, this may not be the right fit.

Walrus + Carpenter
If mom is the sort who is inclined to order the salad off any menu she meets, this probably isn't going to be the place for you this Mother's Day. Walrus + Carpenter offers up brunch indulgences like Bourbon Pecan Waffles and Pulled Pork Eggs Benedict. It's definitely not for calorie counters. There's always a great draft list though, and the in-house cocktails are excellent. While reservations aren't necessarily required, this place tends to fill up on weekends as it is set in the middle of Bridgeport's very cool Black Rock neighborhood so calling ahead is probably your best bet.

This is a relatively new star in the vast restaurant universe of Connecticut, but it already shines pretty bright. For special occasion brunches, Farmhouse opens their doors from 11:00-3:00 and serves up their breakfast and lunch menus. Let me just say that the paninis here are second to none. Farmhouse, true to its name, focuses on sourcing ingredients locally whenever possible. Although it's newish, word is getting around fast and a reservation is definitely required for Mother's Day.

The menu here changes almost daily and is typically finalized only hours before being served. During the harvest season, the majority of the produce used comes from the farm's gardens. This is a dining experience like few others in its freshness and innovation. Because Winivan Farm is also a luxury resort, there is a spa here, too. Again, it is imperative that you call ahead to reserve both dining and spa services.

Set in the very heart of downtown New Haven, Heirloom describes itself as "an urban dining experience with a neighborhood ambiance." This pretty much nails it. The space itself is cool, located on the ground floor of The Study, a hotel at the epicenter of Yale that plays host to visitors from around the world. The menus at Heirloom pay attention to detail and concern themselves with building cuisine around locally sourced ingredients wherever possible. Heirloom also boasts an impressive international wine list which the staff can certainly help you expertly pair with your meal. Call ahead for a reservation.

Last but certainly not least, this place knows brunch and as a result, they are known for brunch. The Sunday Hunt Breakfast is served from 11:00-1:00 and includes sumptuous offerings like belgian waffles with all the trimmings, french toast, or savory lunch options. The historic inn itself is a worthy destination, steeped in the history of the nation and set in the beautiful town of Essex. Call for reservations.

OK, technically Bartaco doesn't do brunch. Not in the traditional sense. But this place (with three locations across the state) is so fun and relaxed and the food is so good, it would make any mom's day. Share (or don't share) some of their amazing guacamole and order up a pile of tacos (ask about their secret tacos, too) and wash it all down with a refreshing mojito. The light, airy atmosphere Bartaco cultivates lends a festive kick no matter what the occasion.
