With travel perhaps limited this winter, it's harder to find a place for kids to dip their feet in the pool. Sure, you can plan an outing to one of these family-friendly water parks nearby, but why not stay home and visit one of the many indoor swimming pools Long Island has to offer?

We’ve rounded up some of the most affordable and family-friendly indoor pools across Long Island. Some are open to community or town residents, while others welcome nonresidents. Indoor Swimming Pools for Families in Nassau County

Echo Park Indoor Pool — West Hempstead

399 Nassau Boulevard
Echo Park Pool is open seven days a week for Town of Hempstead residents who purchase a daily pass. The facility has an Olympic-sized pool with a dive tank, men’s and women’s sauna, lockers, and a snack bar. Swim classes are available.

Eisenhower Park — East Meadow

Merrick and Stewart Avenues
Built in 1998 for the Goodwill Games, the Nassau County Aquatic Center at Eisenhower Park is known as one of the nation's top swimming facilities. When it's not hosting major swimming and diving competitions, it's open for public use for Nassau County residents. Masks must be worn when you're not in the pool, and other safety regulations are in place. You can read about them here

Freeport Recreation Center — Freeport

130 East Merrick Road
Facilities here include a fitness center, gym, indoor pool, and seasonal outdoor pools. Residents and nonresidents are welcome to purchase a day pass, yearly membership, or summer membership. Special plans for families, couples, and seniors make this an affordable option. Masks must be worn when not in the pool.

Long Beach Recreation Center — Long Beach

Magnolia Boulevard and West Bay Drive
The Olympic-size pool at “The Rec” is open six days a week to Long Beach residents. Reservations can be made in advance. There are also public pool sessions.

Sid Jacobson JCC — East Hills

300 Forest Drive
In addition to swimming lessons, the JCC's Kroll Family Aquatics Center also offers family swim time by reservation on the weekends.

North Hempstead Aquatic Activity Center at Tully Park — New Hyde Park

Two words: water slide. The North Hempstead Aquatic Activity Center is open to the Town of North Hempstead residents seven days a week. In addition to the 100 feet of spiraling water-slide fun, there is a wading pool and six water-spray towers. Masks are required when not in the pool.

YMCA of Long Island — Glen Cove

2022 update: Masks must be worn while not in the pool.

While the YMCA does not offer daily passes to the pool, there are many benefits to joining. Perhaps the allure of one-stop shopping for kiddie yoga, pee-wee sports, crafts, and FREE drop-in child care will inspire you to buy a membership so the whole family can go for a dip whenever the mood strikes. Members are free to use any of the six YMCA of Long Island facilities.

Indoor Swimming Pools for Families in Suffolk County

YMCA of Long Island — Multiple Locations

2022 update: Masks must be worn while not in the pool.
Just like the YMCA program in Nassau County, Suffolk YMCAs do not offer daily passes to the pool. Members are free to use any of the six YMCA of Long Island facilities, including these in Suffolk: Bay Shore, East Hampton, Holtsville, Huntington, and Patchogue.

Goldfish Swim School — Centereach

You don't have to be a member or enrolled in a swim class to enjoy the family swim sessions offered at Goldfish Swim School. Session times vary by the day of the week, but they generally last from 1-1½ hours. The cost is $5 per person, up to $15 total per family. There are Nassau County locations in Garden City and Farmingdale.
