As the celestial spectacle of total solar eclipse 2024 approaches, families are anticipating the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to witness this awe-inspiring event together. During the solar eclipse 2024 on Monday, April 8, the moon passes in front of the sun, casting a shadow upon the Earth resulting in moments of complete darkness in the middle of the day for those in the path of totality.

While the solar eclipse 2024 cuts across a great swath of the United States, the path of totality—where complete darkness exists—crosses over eastern and northern New York state, giving local families the chance to take a day trip or long weekend to witness the excitement. When is the Solar Eclipse 2024

On April 8, 2024, the total solar eclipse cuts a 124-mile path across the Empire State dubbed the path of totality. Areas within the path of totality could experience total darkness for up to 4 minutes. The eclipse begins in western New York shortly after 2pm. Depending on your location, the full eclipse is set to begin around 3:15pm and end around 3:30pm.

While the greatest effects of the solar eclipse 2024 will be seen in the path of totality, a partial eclipse will be visible to viewers in the New York metro area. In NYC, for example, the partial eclipse blocks 91 percent of the sun.
