Southeastern CT Indoor Play Place: Stay and Play, Old Saybrook, Connecticut

11/8/13 - By Sherry Pardy

STAY & PLAY IS NO LONGER OPEN FOR BUSINESS.

Imagine a local spot that is chock-a-block full of giant playscapes, ball pits, riding toys, ropes, slides, games, offers nutritious, organic snacks for both kids and adults, serves fair-trade coffee, caters to kids ages birth to 12, AND offers free Wi-Fi.  And, imagine this same facility holds a wide array of classes and space for birthday parties.  Surely, if such a perfect place existed, they'd include special events for our special needs kiddos, too. Consider your wish come true. Here's an indoor play space in Eastern CT that you'll want to check out. Welcome to Stay and Play in Old Saybrook, Connecticut.

Born of the owners' own need to find an open, safe, indoor playspace where their son could play, loudly and unapologetically, they quickly realized other area parents had a similar need for such a play place.  In 2008, this dream became a reality, with the grand opening of Stay and Play in Old Saybrook, Connecticut.

Kids 6 and under can exercise their bodies and minds in the 5,700 square foot open play room, complete with giant climbing areas, cargo nets, super fast slides, towers and ladders.  There's even a full-size school bus inside the play room that doubles as a birthday party space!  Comfy couches and chairs allow spots for parents to socialize, enjoy a cup of coffee, take advantage of the Wi-Fi to catch up on email or work, all while keeping the kids in sight.

Toddlers and crawlers who may not be quite ready for the big kid playscape, can stay in a special area designed just for them, with age appropriate toys and well padded obstacles.  This special part of the playroom is sectioned off from the rest of the play area, to ensure no wandering kiddos into an unsafe situation.

For kids 7 and older, they can head straight for the game room for arcade quality skeeball, air hockey, foosball, free throw basketball and more.

Playing and running and sliding and climbing is hungry work, and Stay and Play has that aspect covered, too.  Stay and Play's cafe' offers nutritious, organic, healthy snacks for both kids and parents.  No need to pack a picnic when you plan a day at Stay and Play, grab a snack, bottle of water, or free trade cup of coffee (for the adults, naturally!) at the cafe', located in the Playroom.

The last Friday of every month, in the evening, is reserved for Sensory Processing Nights, where parents of kiddos with special sensory needs can come and play with less lights, no music, a cozy corner for quiet time, networking opportunities for parents and Autism/Aspergers/SPD specialists on hand to answer questions or help navigate social interactions.

Stay and Play is clean, friendly, and it's like having a playdate, every day!
