HarvestFest 2013: Join Mommy Poppins for Trick-or-Treating, Arts & Crafts, Great Food, Kids' Rock Band & More at Ridge Hill!

10/15/13 - By Sonia Gonzalez

So far this month, we've told you about Halloween events in Historic Hudson Valley, great haunted houses and fun ideas for Halloween crafts. And the month's only halfway done! There's still so much more fun in store this month, we can barely decide what to do next! One event we are particularly excited about is HarvestFest 2013 at Westchester's Ridge Hill. We mentioned this event in our October Go List but with so many fun activities (including a Mommy Poppins booth!), we thought it deserved a dedicated mention here as well.

HarvestFest is an all day event that will be filled with fun seasonal activities, shopping, great food, live music and more. Plus, Mommy Poppins will be on site with the official HarvestFest trick-or-treating bags and an arts and crafts table! You can also enter to win tickets to a show at NYC's New Victory Theater! Read on for everything you need to know about HarvestFest!

My family frequents Ridge Hill often, so we know first hand what a great destination spot it is. Legoland Discovery Center and Frannie's Goodie Shop are my kids favorite stops when they aren't romping in the play area located in the center of the plaza. Now we've got one more reason to head to Ridge Hill. On Saturday, October 26, Ridge Hill is hosting HarvestFest, a full day festival teeming with seasonal activities and fun for all ages.

If your little ones can't wait to don their Halloween costume, no worries. Suit up and head to the Mommy Poppins booth in Town Square for complimentary trick-or-treating bags to use at retailers throughout the Center. There will also be an arts and crafts table at our booth and temporary tattoos to start you off. Stop by and enter to win a family 4-pack of tickets to a show at New Victory Theater in NYC or 6 passes to Bounce in Rockland County!

Throughout Ridge Hill families can also participate in a wide array of activities. As you make your way through the Center, you'll find vendors hosting a variety of activities. Whole Foods Market will have a tent just for the occasion where you can enjoy natural pumpkin decorating and Halloween treats. Legoland Discover Center is offering a $3 discount during HarvestFest for kids who arrive in costume! Orange Splot Art Spot contemporary art lab will lead a chalk-painting activity and the creation of a Harvest Mural. These are just a few of the many activities taking place throughout the Fest.

Foodies of all ages can enjoy apple pie and pumpkin frozen yogurt samplings from Frannie's Goodie Shop and join Sur La Table for cookie decorating. For a more sophisticated flare, check out the presentations at the Ridge Hill Chef Series, where you'll enjoy specially crafted samplings and seasonal recipes that may inspire you this holiday season. And for the sports fans, there will be a tent where retailers Dick’s Sporting Goods, Orvis and L.L. Bean will hold sporting demonstrations and workshops throughout the day on activities like golfing, fly-fishing and kayaking.

HarvestFest ends on a high note with a performance by renowned children’s rock band, The Deedle Deedle Dees! Founded by Brooklyn-based teaching artist-songwriter Lloyd Miller, the Dees use rock-n-roll, country, hip hop, New Orleans piano music, punk and folk music to teach kids about American history, social action and the natural world. I haven't seen this band live yet, so I'm definitely looking forward to checking this out with my kids.

Westchester's Ridge Hill is a regional destination for shopping, dining and entertainment. Patterned after a classic downtown, it features a central Town Square, children’s play area and dancing fountains. Every Friday through November 22, the outdoor Ridge Hill Farmers Market (in partnership with Down to Earth Farmers Markets) features fresh produce and artisanal food items from local farmers and vendors.

Ridge Hill is located at Exit 6A off the New York State Thruway and at the Tuckahoe Road West Exit from the Sprain Brook Parkway.
