Camps & Activities for the NJ Teachers' Convention on November 6 & 7
New Jersey schools are closed November 6th and 7th for the annual New Jersey Education Association convention. Still have to work and wondering what to do with the kids for the day? Or just hoping to keep them occupied? We’ve got the skinny on ten fabulous camps and programs for NJ kids, whether they’re artsy, outdoorsy or athletic. ArtsFest at Morris County Arts Workshop (Chester)
Children will have a blast at this special arts festival just for them, including a variety of hands-on activities such as exercise, art projects, music and writing. Choose from half day (9am-1pm) or full day (9am-3pm) options. The cost is $60 per child for half day and $75 per child for full day. Ages 5-11.
Basketball Mini-Camp at Bergen County YJCC (Washington Township)
The Bergen County YJCC keeps kids busy on their day off with a fun basketball camp. They’ll shoot hoops, build their skills and develop good sportsmanship through drills, games and activities throughout the day. Half-day sessions run from 9am-12pm and full-day camps from 9am-2pm. The cost is $30 for half day and $45 for full day. Ages 5-13.
Camp Caldwell at Caldwell Community Center (Caldwell)
Featuring swimming, a variety of sports and arts & crafts projects, Camp Caldwell is a great way to occupy the kids all day long. The program is available for children ages 4-12 and runs from 7:30am to 5:30pm both days. The cost is $65 per camper per day. Advance registration is recommended—please call or visit the Community Center.
Fall Camps at West Windsor Arts Center (Princeton Junction)
Led by professional teaching artists, these camps keep kids active and inspired on their days off from school. Children ages 5-10 can enroll in “All About Fall Camp” which features painting, dancing, acting and environmental art, while kids ages 8-12 can choose “Museum Art Camp” which includes a visit to the Princeton Art Museum. Both camps run from 9am-3pm. Prices range from $75-85 for one day and $150-170 for two days.
HOPES School Break Program (Hoboken)
This full-day program offers fun and educational EdTech and STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art & Mathematics) based activities for children ages 6 through 12. Kids will participate in visual and dramatic arts, science projects, world music and more! The camp runs from 8am-6pm daily and costs $100 per day, plus a $25 registration fee.
Mini-Camps at Reeves-Reed Arboretum (Summit)
Kids can spend their day off outside, exploring nature through games, crafts, hikes and other activities at Reeves-Reed Arboretum. They’ll learn how animals and plants get ready for winter with the “Mammal Mania” camp on Thursday or the “Plantapalooza” camp on Friday. Both sessions run from 9am to 2pm. The cost is $75 per day or $125 for both days. Ages 5-8.
Rock Climbing Mini-Camp at Elite Climbing (Maple Shade)
A great option for active kiddos, this camp features rock climbing, races and team-building activities. They’ll spend the day developing their climbing skills while making friends and having fun! The camp runs from 10am to 3pm both days, and early drop off and late pick up are available. The cost is $40 per child per day ($35 for siblings) and preregistration is required. Ages 6-13.
School Break Camp at Pump It Up (Freehold, Roselle Park)
Bounce the day away at Pump It Up’s half or full day camps offered both Thursday and Friday. Kids can bounce on the giant inflatables, play games and create art projects. Sessions are available from 9am-12:30pm or 12:30-4pm. The cost is $25 for half day or $40 for the full day. Camps are best suited for ages 4-11.
Vacation Day Workshops at Morris Museum (Morristown)
Morris Museum hosts several wonderful workshops for kids of all ages. Younger children (ages 5-7) can create their own pop-up books, while older children (12 & up) can choose from comic character design or ink & watercolor painting sessions. Morning and afternoon options are available—please check the museum’s website for detailed schedule. Prices range from $50-$60 per session.
Youth Programs at Raritan Valley Community College (Branchburg)
Select from unique class offerings such as Junior Scientists, Cartooning, Wearable Art or Harry Potter. A variety of topics are covered in half and full day sessions at the college—view their brochure online for full details on all the courses available. Half-day classes cost $50 and full-day options range from $80-$200. Ages 5 & up.
