5 Sailing Schools for Long Island Kids

The summer is here and that means plenty of sunny days to spend out on a boat on Long Island's waters. For kids that love the water and enjoy the open ocean, sailing lessons might be in order. And Long Island has five premier sailing schools that teach children to hoist sails, tie knots and steer a sailboat. For more activities and classes this season, check out our Summer Fun Guide.

Sail Long Island offers several classes, including basic coastal cruising, docking and weather, as well as more advanced classes and private lessons in affiliation with the American Sailing Association. For more information, call 917-912-6342.

Port Sailing School offers a variety of sailing lessons, including a family sailing school where every member of your family can learn to sail at the same time. Throughout the summer, the school also offers two-week sailing lessons for teens and tweens.

The Sag Harbor Sailing School offers private lessons for kids ages 9 to 14. The classes are one-on-one and cover everything from leaving the dock, to sailing and can be tailored.
