WeeWork Toddler Activity: Fall Sensory Bin
There is a long list of reasons why sensory play is so important for young children. It helps with social skills, physical skills, communication skills, self-regulation and more. But the best thing about sensory play is that it's pure fun.
This simple activity is a great sensory play idea that can keep little ones busy for hours, indoors or outdoors. Fill a bin or small kiddie pool with regular birdseed, and watch the seeds of imagination sprout as your little birdies play. Kids love the feeling and the sounds of playing with their sensory bin, specially designed for fall.

1.You can use any container you like. For indoors you might use a plastic tub. We used a small kiddie pool. Whatever you choose, fill your container with birdseed. Our pool used 40 lbs of seed. You can also use rice, feed corn or any other grain.
2. Hand your kiddos a few sand toys, plastic cups, toy trucks or even wooden spoons and let them go. They'll love the feeling of the smooth seeds as they dig in, the sound as they pour the seeds from container to container and seeing how the seeds move as they run their toys through them.
3. To add an additional level of play to this activity, try hiding other items like small toys or even fall artifacts like acorns, twigs or stones in the birdseed. Have the kids close their eyes, dig in the seeds to find something and try to guess what they are holding.
