4th of July Weekend in Atlanta: Fireworks, Parades, Festivals

Celebrate America's birthday with parades, festivals and, of course, fireworks this weekend in Atlanta.

We've got Fourth of July celebrations all over the area, from Roswell to Duluth to Kennesaw to Stone Mountain. Many of these events are FREE with lots of kids' activities, music, and food followed by fireworks displays. Some towns are opting to do fireworks without the festival (Decatur, Alpharetta, Peachtree City) but folks can still enjoy the exhibitions from their yards or parks.

It wouldn't be Fouth of July in Atlanta without the Peachtree Road Race, the biggest 10K in the world. If you didn't get a number this year, you can still cheer on the runners on both Saturday, July 3rd and Sunday, July 4th.

Besides all of the Independence Day fanfare, the much-anticipated Illuminarium — the first immersive exhibition of its kind in the world — premieres in Atlanta on July 1 with WILD: A Safari Experience. Atlanta families can also enjoy a dance party at Halcyon, go on a family hike at Dunwoody Nature Center and taste all kinds of cuisine at Alpharetta's Food Truck Alley.

If traveling is on your mind (but planning seems daunting), we've got you covered with our Atlanta weekend getaway guide. Here you'll find ideas for day trips, beach destinations and cool driving-distanced cities (Charleston, anyone?).  Need to keep the kids busy and preferably learning too? Check out our list of free and cheap online summer camps with topics like art, coding and sports.
