SK8 the Roof Opens at Ponce City Market for a Summer of Roller Skating Fun

Roller skating in Atlanta just got a whole lot cooler this summer with the addition of the newly opened SK8 the Roof! SK8 the Roof, a 3,000-square-foot, covered outdoor roller skating rink perched 10 stories above Atlanta’s iconic Ponce City Market, debuted last week and will stay open daily throughout the summer. And when Atlanta families take the elevator ride up to SK8, they also get access to the other amazing rooftop attractions at Skyline Park. SK8 the Roof: Classic Summer Vibes at the Roller Rink
SK8 the Roof just opened on June 21, 2025, so my kids were super excited to visit during their summer vacation. Before you can lace up your skates and show off your moves, families pay the entrance fees on the ground floor, receive wristbands, and ride Ponce City Market's reserved freight elevator to the roof. From there, you can either go left to Skyline Park and play the Boardwalk games, mini golf, and ride the giant slide; or turn right and head to the covered roller skating rink. We took the right!
Located on Skyline Park's covered rooftop terrace, SK8 the Roof is inspired by classic '80s nostalgia, with bright colors and graffiti. The Roof provides complimentary skate rentals (with light-up wheels!), but seasoned skaters can bring their own inline and roller skates if so desired. Guests enjoy music from live DJs or pre-recorded, with surprise treats and giveaways, depending on when you visit.

My girls did struggle a bit when they first put on their skates at SK8 the Roof, since they're used to a carpeted (and thus slower) on-ramp to the rink. Some kids (mine) held on to the walls for stability, while other roller skaters did tricks zooming through the inner circle. You can ask Roof staff for roller skate trainers/aids if needed. Complimentary water is available near the skate rental, so make sure to hydrate because it gets HOT out there!
My girls dressed the part of eager roller skaters during their summer visit with the proper accessories.
Once my kids had their fill of roller skating, we returned our skates, put on our sneakers and walked across The Roof to Skyline Park. There, they slid down the giant, three-story slide, played a few games, and rode the Heege Tower. When we took the elevator back down to the first floor, my kiddos filled up on boba tea at Uwu Asian Dessert Co. in the Food Hall and headed out. And we noticed only three new bruises the next morning from the previous skate falls!
