Art Classes for Philly Kids and Homeschoolers
Art is a wonderful form of self-expression. Art classes are a great way to help kids hone their creativity, to discover new talents, or even just de-stress. There are so many great places in and around Philly for art, and many of them offer classes for young artists. Some even offer homeschool classes for kids who learn at home and are looking to socialize with their peers. We've rounded up some great nearby art classes-- perfect for after school activity or to fulfill homeschool curriculums.
Michener Art Museum- Doylestown
The Michener Art Museum offers a wide variety of classes all year long. From pre-K to adult, this museum has something for everyone- including homeschoolers! Homeschool classes are borken down by 2 age groups, 5-10 and 10-14. All other classes are broken down by grade level. Choose from a variety of different types of classes, including some that can be attended by both child and parent. Prices vary, but most classes range from $100-$200 for an 8-week session, and they are offered in sessions.
Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts (PAFA)- Center City
PAFA offers free monthly workshops to families through its Family Arts Academy. Topics vary each month and are a great bonding experience for the whole family! PAFA's offerings don't end there- there's also Saturday classes for middle school students, which run in sessions throughout the year, as well as homeschool workshops during the week. These workshops occur the first Friday of every month and are $10 per child for non-members and free for members. Saturday middle school sessions cost about $250-$300 for an 8-week session depending on your membership status.
Philadelphia Museum of Art- Fairmount
Creating art is fun, but the best way to further your creativity is by learning about some of the greats. The Philadelphia Museum of Art offers some interesting and creative art history classes to kids age 3-12, and homeschoolers from preschool age through high school. Homeschoolers can enjoy workshops on a variety of topics once a month throughout the year for just $11 per child for non-members and $9 for members. Reduced rates are available for multiple class packages. Regular classes cost $128-$160 for 11 weeks of classes depending on your membership status.
Philly Art Center- Fairmount, Queen Village, and Cherry Hill
Philly Art Center has classes for kids age 20 months all the way up to 9+. Young children can take classes with their parents for a fun bonding experience. Prices range from about $170-$230 for 8-week sessions.
Pennsylvania College of Art & Design (PCA&D)- Lancaster, PA
PCA&D offers classes for youth in grades 1-9 as well as homeschoolers and pre-college classes. These classes are structured as studio classes, so students will have time to develop and home their skills with the help of a teacher. Workshops cost about $55-$95 and 7-week classes cost about $175-$200
