Our Visit to Flight Trampoline Park in New Britain Followed by a Stop to Avery's Soda
Located in the back of an industrial park in New Britain, Flight Trampoline Park in Hartford County awaits those looking for some exhausting jumpy fun. I had a few boys with me for my son’s birthday celebration. It was a weekday and they don’t rent out the party room during the week so we just went without. Happily, it didn’t matter a bit.
Each parent can register their own child on-line and it is quick and easy. One of the boys didn’t have all of the correct information and after a second of sweating, we were able to contact his parents who quickly got on-line and signed the parental waiver. Whew. Disaster averted. We got our time slot and ran through the doors when the time came. WOW! The boys were thrilled! They couldn’t get their socks and shoes off fast enough.

The first thing you see is the massive jumping surface. As you look around you'll notice a fenced off dodge ball area. Be warned, this is where the older kids tend to hang out and some of them are ruthless in beaming the ball at their opponents – no matter what the age. Enter at own risk. There is an employee on hand watching the game to make sure no one gets hurt. Actually, I'm impressed with how well the entire place is supervised.
Who doesn’t like an extra spring in their step? Especially when trying to make a hoop! Now your little one can experience what it’s like to actually dunk. This is not a court, just an area with a few hoops and a trampoline surface under them.
The foam pit area was another favorite spot. Heck, who am I kidding, they loved every section of this place. With the foam pit your child can practice that daring flip that they’ve been wanting to try for so long. No worry about landing badly. Smaller children have an entire section dedicated to them. This is good because we did see a smaller child get in the way of a bigger kid landing a flip and he incurred a kick to the head. He was ok…but maybe he should have been in the smaller kid area so that wouldn’t have happened.
Tips: Wear shorts and a t-shirt. No sweatpants or long sleeve anything. You are going to sweat and get hot. All of that jumping is quite a workout. A one hour session was sufficient to wear out the 10-12 year old group of boys I was with. You may want to purchase their socks with grips because you are not allowed to wear your own socks. Feet can sometimes get trampoline burn when falling and sliding on the surface. It wasn’t a huge deal, but it’s an option.
Bring water or be prepared to pay $2 per bottle. There is a water fountain near the entrance. We’ve been twice now, one day during the week and the other on a holiday weekend. You can imagine the difference in attendance. Even on the busier day, the kids still had loads of fun and weren’t prohibited in what they could do.
Instead of indulging in birthday cake after jumping, we decided to take the thirsty boys for a treat to Avery’s Soda, just 10 minutes away. Avery’s is a 100 year old family run soda making business located in a red barn in New Britain. They have every flavor soda you could possibly imagine and in almost every color. They make it right there and if planned properly you can make an appointment for the kids to get a tour and even help make the soda.
In our household, this is a new favorite way to spend a free day! Be prepared for sore muscles the next day! Nothing a little motrin can't help. Happy jumping and soda gulping! FYI: We don't allow soda drinking in our house but believe in moderation and think that a visit to Avery's every once in a while is worth the sugar and artificial flavoring fun.
