Long Island Kids' Activities June 9 and 10: Nunley's Carousel 1912 Festival, a Strawberry Fair, and a Passport to Israel

Strawberries! This time it's Benner's Farm in East Setauket having the strawberry fair, with sack, spoon, and wheelbarrow races, in addition to strawberries galore. Nunley's Carousel at the Cradle of Aviation Museum is having its centennial celebration also with old-time children's games and midway games and a barbershop quartet. The Suffolk Y JCC is holding "A Passport to Israel" at the Book Revue in Huntington, in which you can effectively travel to various cities of Israel. Strawberries!...Chocolated...shortcaked...sundaed...waffled...jammed...and leathered... Add old-fashioned games, great food, homemade fresh strawberry ice cream and good company for an afternoon of down-home fun. In addition to many varied homemade organic strawberry delights and live old-time music with Nigel’s Acoustic Bridge, visitors will be encouraged to join in the games of yesteryear. These will include old-fashioned baseball, sack races, spoon races, bubble-gum blowing contests, wheelbarrow and balloon races, a cracker whistle contest, and funny face competitions Last year more than a thousand people enjoyed the weekend's festivities, the farm, and the animals.

The Cradle of Aviation Museum is holding a 1912 festival weekend in honor of the Carousel’s landmark anniversary. In addition to a ride on the Carousel, there will be midway games, music by a barbershop quartet, old-time children’s games such as hoops & sticks, sack races, and croquet. There will be old-fashioned crafts and foods for sale reminiscent of 1912 amusement park cuisine. The festivities will be joined by the personality of ex-President Theodore Roosevelt, who in 1912 was running for President once again as the candidate of the Bull Moose Party, portrayed by James Foote.

Help LICM create a beautiful garden of hope as you decorate and personalize a flower with a message of encouragement or remembrance. The flowers created by LICM’s visitors will be presented to participants at the inaugural American Cancer Society—Nassau County Relay for Life event on June 29.

Join us as we "travel" to Israel at Book Revue: Snacks in Tel Aviv, arts & crafts in Zefat, storytime in Jerusalem, dance in Haifa. Each family will get their "passport" stamped as they visit various cities throughout Israel. Preregistration is required for this PJ Library event.
