Paw Patrol and Olaf Among Macy's New Thanksgiving Parade Balloons
The countdown to Thanksgiving is in full swing and that means the NYC Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade is looming large on the streets of Midtown Manhattan. We've got insider tips for where to watch the parade and how to manage the crowds at the balloon inflation, but now we're sharing a sneak peek at the four new additions set to join the 91st annual parade on Thursday, November 23, for the very first time.
Read on to meet the cast of (new) characters.

Olaf Balloon
The goofy and goodhearted snowman will have lots to be thankful for on November 23. The character's new featurette, Olaf’s Frozen Adventure, hits theaters the day prior, then he makes his debut in the parade. According to USA Today, Frozen director Chris Buck sketched the initial design for the Macy's Parade Studio design team.
Paw Patrol's Chase Balloon
We know more than a few Paw Patrol super-fans who will flip for this parade addition. Dressed in his signature navy blue police uniform, Chase measures 43 feet high, 36 feet wide, and 60 feet long.

Shimmer and Shine Float
While Chase is floating solo down 5th Avenue, Nickelodeon's genie twins Shimmer and Shine bring their magical world with them. The multistory float includes the palace, marketplace, rainbow waterfall with mist, gems and jewels, and clouds, along with their pal Leah and their pets. The tricky soceress Zeta will also be there.
The Green Giant Float
This'll get your kids to eat their veggies! While not a balloon flying through the air, the new "Harvest in the Valley" float highlights one very prominent (and gentle) giant. The new creation shows off fall's best harvest: green beans, corn, and other vegetable crops on a farm landscape—where a more-than-two-stories-tall smiling Green Giant looks over his bounty.
Entenmann Float
Or maybe you'd prefer to stick to the sweeter side of the holidays? The Brooklyn-founded Entenmann brings a bakery-themed float to the parade for 2017—and it looks pretty delectable. There are donuts, cupcakes, and confetti bursting from the dessert-stuffed scene. Yum!
Harold the Baseball Player Balloon
Where are our Miracle on 34th Street fans? In celebration of the holiday movie's 70th anniversary, Macy's and Twentieth Century Fox brings back the iconic Harold the Baseball Player with a brand-new balloon in this year's parade. He's decked out with glove and ball in hand and in hometown whites. The 1947 film shot some scenes in Macy's.
Returning balloons include the Pillsbury Doughboy, Angry Birds' Red, Ice Age’s Scrat and his acorn, the Red Mighty Morphin Power Ranger, Sinclair's Dino, Trolls characters, SpongeBob SquarePants, and more. As always, Jolly Old St. Nick will ring in the holiday season from his perch at the parade's finale, before flying into Macy's Santaland to listen to children's wish lists.
For more ways to celebrate the holiday, visit our Thanksgiving Fun Guide, and stay tuned, because we expect more new balloons might be announced in the coming weeks.
