Westchester News: Caramoor's New Alliance, New Candy Rox Opens, Bowlmor in White Plains
Mommy Poppins Westchester is excited to announce that we are bringing back our news posts, which highlight items of interest for local families. So—in addition to our extensive coverage on where to go and what to check out with kids—we'll give you the skinny on grand openings, new services for families, and other useful tidbits for raising kids in Westchester and the Hudson Valley.
This week, we’ve got the scoop on Caramoor’s new partnership with Lincoln Center, the highly anticipated opening of Candy Rox’s second sweet shop, and two hot new family-friendly destinations; plus details on a few new services and, sadly, the closing of a local favorite. Read on for the full report and, if you haven't already, be sure to sign up for our free newsletters to get our posts delivered straight to your inbox!

Openings and Closings
Bowlmor White Plains has taken occupancy in the former site of AMF Bowling and is now open. The three-story sports and entertainment venue offers black-light bowling, in-house dining and arcade games. Head over on Saturday, May 9, for a special Kids Bowl Free event—which goes way beyond bowling!
Lower Westchester residents may be delighted to hear that Dave and Buster’s has opened in Pelham, its first location in Westchester (its next nearest location is at Palisades Center in Nyack). Boasting over 170 arcade games, in addition to dining, parties and more, there’s plenty of fun for the whole family.
Chocoholics rejoice! Candy Rox has opened a second location in Bronxville. We adore Candy Rox's original sweet spot in Rye and wrote about them in our post on local candy shops. In addition to the unending selection of candy by the pound, hand-dipped chocolates and packaged sweets, expect more of their cheery assortment of inedible gifts like clothing accessories, sprightly decorative pillows and more.
And sadly, The Cupcake Kitchen of Irvington has closed its doors. In addition to its namesake, the eatery also served breakfast, lunch and Jane’s Ice Cream.
In other news…
Caramoor Center for Music and the Arts is stepping up its jazz repertoire this year, as it joins forces with Jazz at Lincoln Center. Westchester families can enjoy world-class performances without leaving the county, while Caramoor’s serene gardens provide a beautiful backdrop. This collaboration kicks off at the 22nd annual Caramoor Jazz Festival on July 18.
Sylvan Learning Center, with locations in White Plains and Bronxville, is adding new STEM courses to its lineup. Look for after-school classes in robotics and coding.
Apiary of Larchmont, a takeout store serving freshly made food with natural, locally sourced ingredients, now offers culinary birthday parties for kids. After cooking up a storm in their commercial kitchen, young chefs get to feast on the fruits of their labor in Apairy's upstairs café.
Stone Barns Center for Food and Agriculture has modified its weekend admission fees. Weekday admission is still free, however weekend rates have gone up a bit in exchange for a more intimate and hands-on experience, with new offerings expected. Admission includes access to all scheduled activities for the day.
