Weekday Event Picks for NYC Kids: Free National Reading Month Celebrations, Purim Carnival, Orchid Show March 2-6
March is National Reading Month so this week's picks include FREE storytimes with Curious George at multiple New York Public Library branches and Read Across America Day celebrations with readings of the new classic Click, Clack, Moo. Plus, celebrate Purim and try a FREE acrobatic class at one of our favorite circus schools.

Celebrate National Reading Month: Storytime with Curious George – the Bronx
Head to the Bronx Library Center for a special storytime with every preschooler's favorite mischievous chimp. Afterward he'll pose for pics with his young fans. Can't make it today? There are additional Curious George storytimes at other branches later in the week. FREE

Lava Community Class – Prospect Heights

Purim Carnival – Upper West Side
Celebrate the Jewish holiday of Purim, which official begins at sundown, with West End Synagogue's festive annual fete. Don your costumes and enjoy carnival games, face painting, cotton candy, pizza, a family-friendly interactive Megillah reading and a fun Purim play for teens and grown-ups. Free admission but there are fees for activities. In advance: $5 for 10 carnival tickets; at the door: $10 for 10 tickets

The Orchid Show: Chandeliers – the Bronx
Get a breath of spring at the New York Botanical Garden's recently opened orchid display in its heated Enid A. Haupt Conservatory. Be sure to hit the Everett Children's Adventure Garden where kids can make their own mini-terrariums. Free with All-Garden Pass: $20 for adults, $8 for children ages 2-12

Read Across America: Click, Clack, Moo: Cows That Type – Brooklyn
More kid-lit fun. To mark Read Across America Day, multiple branches of the Brooklyn Public Library are hosting special storytimes of Doreen Cronin and Betsy Lewin's Caldecott Honor picture book, Click, Clack, Moo. Depending on the library, kids can also enjoy crafts and other activities. FREE
