Outdoor Summer Theater Performances for New Jersey Families
Summertime….a reason to do everything and anything outside! Take advantage of New Jersey’s summer evenings and get out of the house for some culture, whether it be Shakespeare or a get-up-on-your-feet-and-dance musical. Pack a lovely summer picnic and enjoy a play in one of these local parks, outdoor theaters or fairgrounds.

Plays In the Park is celebrating its 50th season with an exciting lineup. Kids can enjoy My Fair Lady in June and Grease in August. Bring a chair and a cooler, outside food and drink is permitted. The plays have been cited for excellence; the scenery and costumes are often based on that of the original Broadway productions. Tickets are sold on the day of performance only. Ticket price is $7.00 per adult; $5.00 per senior citizen 60 and over, and children twelve and under are free. Cash only!
Outdoor Stage/Shakespeare Theater of New Jersey, Convent Station NJ
The Shakespeare Company of New Jersey is staging “A Comedy of Errors” on June 20. The outdoor stage that is the home for the Shakespeare Theater is located on the campus of the College of Saint Elizabeth in Convent Station. The ampitheatre is made of grass-and-stone and is the one of the only theaters of its kind in the United States, seating 400 audience members. Bring a blanket or low beach chair, and a picnic dinner!
The Theater Company, Hoboken NJ
Gilbert and Sullivan’s The Pirates of Penzance is the featured outdoor show from Hoboken’s The Theater Company. Come to Sinatra Park Ampitheater from July 14-22 to enjoy this wonderful performance. The Theater Company (TTC) is based in Hoboken, NJ, and has been presenting plays since 2000. The Theater Company's mission is to produce theatrical productions that are accessible to people of every age. Their productions combine professionals, community members, students and children in productions so the whole company can benefit from each other’s experiences. Performances run July 13-15 & 20-22, 2012 at 7pm.
Open Air Theatre, Washington Crossing, Titusville NJ
The Downtown Performing Arts Center of Lambertville presents a plethora of musicals and plays during their summer stage at the Washington Crossing Open Air Theatre in Titusville. Mainstage performances include The Music Man and Chicago, while the children’s stage offers Disney classics such as Cinderella, Snow White and Pinocchio. Performances are weekends only weather permitting. Tickets range from $10 to $15.
