LI Weekend Events June 4-6: Strawberry Festival, Butterfly Detective Fun, Sensory Garden Tour, Turtle Scavenger Hunt, and More!

Welcome, June! Strawberries are here! You can sample them at a strawberry festival, learn about butterflies or help tag box turtles. Take your child on a sensory tour of the Old Westbury Gardens, or head inside the Long Island Science Museum to learn the secrets of chocolate. And if summer is on your mind, you can attend the Dock Day and Craft Festival at the Town Dock of Port Washington. There are some wonderful events to participate in this weekend while giving a hearty welcome to the unofficial beginning of the summer.

Turtle Walk

Join in one of the more unusual scavenger hunts you’ll ever hear of. Attend Sweetbriar Nature Center’s annual box turtle scavenger hunt and head count. After the turtles have been tagged, they will be released. Make a turtle project to take home and meet some of the resident turtles at the nature center. There’s a wildlife and craft fair, too! Price of admission is $5 for members, $6 for non-members.

Tour the beautiful grounds of the formerly privately owned mansion. Children will be able to take a sensory tour of the gardens while learning about the plants and flowers. General admission to the property is $10 for adults, $5 for children 7-12 and FREE for children 6 and under.

Have a sweetie with a sweetooth in the family? Calling all chocolate lovers to the Long Island Science Musuem this weekend. Learn the secrets to making the best chocolate.
