Long Island Weekend Events: September 11th-12th, 2010

9/9/10 - By Katia

Okay, we know that summer feels officially over, but even so, we still have some beautiful weather, perfect actually for some state park activities and some good beach time.  You can help feral quail return to the wild, attend a harvest and seafood festival, and everywhere you turn you are bound to bump into a great arts and crafts festival--the cool kind that cater to the whole family and include rides and fair food and cute animals. And if you are feeling hungry, check out the Granda Festa Italiana for some good eating and good fun. Have a great weekend.

Convey of Quail
Connetquot River State Park Preserve
Saturday
9:30am-11:00am
All Ages
Adults $4, Kids $3
Help the Park Preserve reintroduce once wild quail to their former homes. Feed the temporarily caged quail and prepare them for their future meals of ticks. I'm not sure what this means, but the parks site clearly mentions ticks. Which sounds a little gross, but truly, I appreciate it nonetheless. I thank the quail of the world for taking care of ticks. And now you can help them do just that.

Don't miss the petting zoo (all the adorable baby animals), face painting, pony rides, a fire truck you can climb aboard and the usual guilty pleasure fair food--popcorn, hotdogs, cotton candy... There will also be a performance of an award winning musical (about the Revolutionary War debate), Civil War re-enactors (with fifes and drums!), and all manner of arts and crafts. A solid mix of fun and history for the whole family.
