Nassau County Museum of Art Exhibition: Deco at 100
- see all dates
The Nassau County Museum of Art’s original Deco at 100 exhibition encompasses significant cultural advancements during Long Island’s Roaring Twenties/Jazz Age movement, including votes, jobs, and the automobile for women, the beginnings of suburbia with commutation for work, and planned residential communities
About the exhibition: This show coincides with the 100th anniversary of the 1925 Paris International Exhibition of Modern Decorative and Industrial Arts, which publicly launched the movement. Concentrations of works by such artists as Louis Comfort Tiffany, Fernand Léger, Guy Pène du Bois, Gaston Lachaise, Elie Nadelman, and Reginald Marsh along with art deco stylists of poster art and graphics, and photography will convey the Art Deco spirit along with its furniture, decorative arts, and fashion. Like Our Gilded Age, the social scene of Long Island’s Gold Coast, and its personalities – both upstairs and downstairs – will be portrayed, along with the ongoing relationship with the immediate urban context of New York with its skyscrapers and deco-styled architecture.
