The Poconos Mountains in Pennsylvania are home to a variety of beautiful campgrounds, cabins, and RV sites, so it’s no wonder the area is a popular vacation destination for New Jerseyans. Just an hour away for those near the border in Warren County and not too far from other areas of the state, getting to the Poconos is a doable drive with young kids in the backseat.

Family-Friendly Campgrounds and RV Sites in the Poconos

1. Otter Lake Camp Resort - Marshalls Creek, PA

This 300-acre campground features four playgrounds, indoor and outdoor pools, a heated kiddie pool, two hot tubs, two laundromats, heated restrooms with showers, a convenience store, an arcade room, a splash park, and a 60-acre lake. Also offered: daily fire truck rides, themed weekends, shuffleboard, horseshoes, volleyball, pickleball, tennis, racquetball, basketball, and softball. In the summer, the activity director plans daily activities for the whole family, including kickball, fishing contests, arts and crafts, and more. 2. Thousand Trails Timothy Lake North – East Stroudsburg, PA

This campground is near downtown Stroudsburg, so a variety of restaurants and shops are in striking distance. The Timothy Lake North site features nearly 200 RV and tent sites, plus a playground, mini golf, pool shuffleboard, volleyball, softball, basketball, fishing, and planned family activities.

3. Secluded Acres Campground – Lake Ariel, PA

Family-friendly activities at this 350-acre site include mini golf, basketball, horseshoes, fishing, boating, cornhole, a playground, and a game room. The campground has space for tent camping in the woods or by the pond that includes a picnic table and fire ring. The site is open April through October for seasonal, weekend, weekly, or monthly RV rental sites, as well as nightly tent camping.

4. Chestnut Lake Campground – Brodheadsville, PA

This year-round campsite offers fishing, swimming, and boat rentals for Chestnut Lake. The kids can enjoy the playground, basketball court, and rec hall filled with billiards and arcade games. The large campsites are a great option for those with bigger RVs and most have Wi-Fi, cell, and cable connections.

5. Scotrun RV Campground – Scotrun, PA

This campground's convenient location places families near Camelback Mountain Ski Resort, Camelbeach Waterpark, and Pocono Premium Outlet Mall. Onsite activities include lawn bowling, volleyball, shuffleboard, basketball, mini golf, arts and crafts, a game room, an outdoor pool, and a playground. The campground also offers a small number of rental accommodations for those without RVs or tents.

6. Mountain Vista Campground – East Stroudsburg, PA

Mountain Vista offers an impressive variety of onsite family activities. There is a fishing pond, two pickleball courts, fire truck rides, a pool, a splash pad, a basketball court, a volleyball court, 6-hole disc golf, horseshoe pits, a bocce court, a gaga ball pit, a playground, shuffleboard, ping pong, giant Jenga, giant checkers, badminton, and more. The site has six different cabin styles and lists details about each option on its website. 7. Echo Valley Cottages – East Stroudsburg, PA

This year-round, pet-friendly resort in the eastern Poconos Mountains features private one- or two-bedroom cottage rentals. The cottages feature a fully equipped kitchen, pillows, blankets, free toiletries, cable television, Wi-Fi, a window A/C unit, a charcoal grill, a picnic table, and a fire pit. The premises include mini golf, a pool, a beach volleyball court, a fishing pond, a playground, and space for soccer, football, and frisbee.

8. Peaceful Woodlands Family Campground – Blakeslee, PA

Amenities at this campground include two playgrounds, an outdoor pool, a dog park, mini golf, a camp store, Wi-Fi, a playing field, ATV and hiking trails, arcade games, and books and movies to borrow. The pet-friendly cabins sleep up to six people and include a refrigerator, a microwave, a ceiling fan, and window A/C units. Great Wolf Lodge and Camelback Mountain are a short drive away for families looking for additional adventure.

9. Delaware Water Gap/Poconos Mountain KOA – East Stroudsburg, PA

Guests can choose between a rustic camping cabin or a deluxe cabin with a full bathroom that sleeps up to eight. This campground also offers two unique sleeping options. The Covered Wagon features two bunk beds, one king bed, and cable. The huge Teepee includes a full-size futon, six bedrolls, and cable. Onsite amenities include mini golf, Wi-Fi, a pool, a snack bar, and bike rentals.

10. Mount Pocono Campground – Mount Pocono, PA

In addition to themed weekends, this campground offers horseshoe pits, bocce ball, volleyball, badminton, croquet, ladder golf, bean bag toss, ring toss, billiards, ping pong, arcade games, fitness room, playground, heated pools, and a library with about 2,000 books. The rental units are one- or two-bedroom cabins with full bathrooms, heat and air conditioning, a full kitchen, cable TV, a DVD player, a deck, a picnic table, and a fire ring.
