Our Visit to the Renaissance Faire in Hebron, CT

10/8/12 - By Tania Pesce

“Good day my lady”, the man fully clad in 16th century attire spoke in his thick British brogue. Surrounded by knights, Lords, horse-riding jousters and even King Arthur himself I thought I had stepped back in time to the Renaissance. Attend King Arthur’s Fall Harvest Festival and you will also get to experience what it was like to be a part of that era. This past Sunday I attended the opening weekend at the Hebron Lions Fairgrounds where the faire runs now until October 28. In its 14th season the festival is Connecticut’s largest Renaissance Faire.

Escape into a world of fantasy where your little one will enjoy learning about history while experiencing it first hand in an interactive setting. It makes for a perfect day trip with plenty of fun shows to enjoy, try activities like archery or spear throwing, or just browse the old village merchant shops to purchase authentic souvenirs. If you work up a hearty appetite there are plenty of traditional foods to taste like scotch eggs, stews in a bread bowl or a turkey leg that’s nearly as big as my three year old's head! But if you’re less than daring then there is also an endless array of festival food favorites to choose from. Food is also allowed to be brought in so pack up a cooler and enjoy lunch in their picnic area.

One of the top recommended things to see (straight from the mouth of my own daughter) is the Princess Tea Time. The “Princess Castle” is setting for a tea time party filled with tables of coloring pages, games like pass the slipper, and story time. Your aspiring Princesses (or Prince) will have the opportunity to decorate a crown and play games before finally sitting down with Sleeping Beauty and Snow White to enjoy cookies and juice in fancy tea cups!

General admission is $16, children (7-15) is $10, and ages 6 and under are free. They are open weekends from 11 am-6 pm with extended hours to 9 pm for their special Halloween nights themed event. The website has more information regarding specific dates and times.
