If you think Halloween town and library programs are only about storytime and paper pumpkins, think again! Many towns in Westchester offer standout events that are frightfully fun—not to mention the parades, parties, and more free activities for families who love Halloween. 

Below we’ve listed two dozen places with fun Halloween programs. Best of all—they’re all FREE! (And, OK, there are storytimes and crafts, but we do like those, too.)

Halloween Crafting Series – Mamaroneck 
Wednesdays, October 3, 10, 17, and 24, 2018
Middle and high schoolers can try their hands at a whole slew of Halloween crafts on Wednesdays—from mummy sock characters to spider web décor to Halloween yarn garland and sugar-skull dolls.

Scarecrow Invasion – Tarrytown
Monday October 8, 2018 – Wednesday, Oct 31, 2018
Visit the grounds of Lyndhurst mansion during daylight hours to view hundreds of scarecrows made by local school groups and other area organizations. Encounter some skeletons along the way, too! It’s $5 to enter—but free if you’re attending one of Lyndhurst’s other happenings.  

Halloween Hay Bale Theater – Yonkers
Fridays, October 12 and 16, 2018
Visit Stew Leonard’s Garden Center on either October 12 or 16 for a free, outdoor showing of a kid-friendly Halloween flick. There will be refreshments served and in the case of bad weather, the screenings will be held indoors.   

Pumpkin Carving Demo – Yonkers
Sunday, October 14, 2018
Also at the Stew Leonard’s Garden Center? Get inspired for your own pumpkin carving by watching a master carver make elaborate creations.  

DIY Pipe Cleaner Pumpkins – Mount Kisco

Hastings Spooktacular Weekend – Hastings-on-Hudson

On Thursday evening, there’s pumpkin carving, followed by a haunted house on Friday. On Saturday, join the Halloween Pet Parade on Warburton Ave, and on Sunday, meet in front of the James Harmon Community Center for a family-friendly Halloween parade.
