Connecticut's Fairfield County is quickly becoming the next destination for some of the most beloved restaurants in New York City. As more families make the move from the city to the suburbs, it’s no surprise their favorite restaurants are following too. Even better—these spots are all family-friendly, complete with kid-approved menu options. It’s a win-win: a familiar favorite that both parents and kids can enjoy. Here’s a roundup of NYC-based eateries to check out on your next dining outing in Fairfield County.

New York-Based Restaurants in Fairfield County

1. Mighty Quinn's Barbecue - Norwalk 

Mighty Quinn’s Barbecue has finally arrived in Connecticut. And if you’re a BBQ-loving family you have to check it out. What started as a popular food truck is now a cozy, sit-down restaurant. Mighty Quinn's has both indoor and outdoor seating, perfect for a casual night out with the kids. Mighty Quinn's serves up Texas-style barbecue the old-school way, slow-cooked with wood and time.” And yes, it’s totally worth the wait. There's pulled pork, brisket, ribs; everything is tender, juicy, and full of flavor. You can grab your favorite off the pit and turn it into a sandwich or just pair it with some tasty sides. Bonus: there’s an arcade area that keeps the kids entertained while you actually enjoy your meal. It’s quickly become one of our go-to family dinner spots, and I think it might be yours too.

2. Jacob's Pickles - Norwalk 

Conveniently located just outside of the SoNo Collection, Jacob's Pickles is a fantastic family-friendly restaurant that started in the Upper West Side. The space is large, making it perfect for big families or groups, and the menu truly offers something for everyone. The kids’ menu is especially charming, featuring “emergency munchies,” a fun play on a bread basket with options like dill pickle spears, biscuits with strawberry butter, and chopped strawberries that are served right away to keep little ones happy while they wait. The Southern-style comfort food is absolutely delicious, with generous portions and tons of flavor. Crowd favorites include the honey chicken with pickles, mac and cheese, and (of course) the signature pickle selection.

3. Emmy Squared - Westport and Greenwich (coming soon)

True Detroit-style pizza, straight from Brooklyn, has landed in Connecticut! Emmy Squared is serving up fan favorites like the MVP, Good Paulie, and Big Ang, or you can customize your own with a variety of classic and premium toppings. Beyond pizza, the menu features gourmet burgers and hearty salads. For the little ones, there’s a kid-friendly selection including pizza sticks, burgers, and chicken bites. Each item is served with a side of fries, corn, carrots, or pineapple. Plus, the kids' menu comes with fun pizza facts and activities to keep them engaged. With the warm weather approaching, Emmy Squared offers outdoor seating. And get excited Greenwich, because Emmy Squared is coming soon! 

4. Tacombi - Westport  

A New York City favorite since 2010, Tacombi brought its vibrant Mexican flavors to Westport in 2023. Celebrated with authentic dishes like tacos, quesadillas, and burritas. Love Taco Tuesdays? Enjoy a buy-one-get-one taco deal every Tuesday. The Westport location offers a relaxed, family-friendly vibe with both indoor and outdoor seating. Order at the counter or right from your table, whichever suits your style.

5. Seamore's - Darien 

Seamore’s has brought its signature sustainable seafood to Connecticut, creating a lively and welcoming spot for families. The bright, coastal-inspired interior adds to the fun, relaxed vibe. From fresh oysters to spicy salmon, the menu features a wide variety of fish options, whether you’re in the mood for a shareable starter or a hearty main dish. There are non- fish items like Steak Frites, a Smash Burger, and Chicken Milanese. Their "Little Groupies" menu is just for the kids—with fish and chips as the sole seafood option. The rest of the lineup includes kid-approved classics like mac & cheese, a hamburger, and a cheesy quesadilla perfect for even the pickiest eaters.

6. NAYA - Darien   

NAYA, a popular city lunch spot, has made its way to Connecticut with a location in Darien. Known for its bold Middle Eastern flavors, NAYA lets you fully customize your meal by choosing from a bowl, salad, or freshly baked pita roll. Then you build it your way—pick a base, a protein, and as many toppings as you’d like (yes, unlimited!). There's even thought of the little ones with the “Little Habibi Bowl,” a kid-friendly option that includes vermicelli rice or tri-color quinoa, a protein, five toppings, and a juice or milk.

7. Sweetgreen - Greenwich, Darien, and Westport

Salad lovers were thrilled when Sweetgreen made its way to Connecticut. Known for its plant-forward menu and high-quality ingredients, it’s a go-to spot for health-conscious parents. Whether you're tracking calories, protein, or just looking for a nourishing meal, Sweetgreen has you covered with salads, warm bowls, and protein plates. And the best part? There’s a kid’s menu! The Little Harvest—featuring roasted chicken, sweet potatoes, and apples—is a favorite among little ones. Makes sense since the Harvest Bowl is a popular adult item too!

8. Just Salad - Fairfield

Another great salad-centric spot to check out, Just Salad landed in Fairfield! Their menu goes beyond greens with market plates, warm bowls, wraps, and smoothies. For those looking for health-conscious options, Just Salad has just want you need. Bonus: every ingredient is clearly listed, making it easier for those with allergies or following specific diets like vegetarian or paleo. For the little ones, Just Salad has a fun Sesame Street–inspired kids' menu with playful picks like B is for Banana and Me Want Caesar. They even offer reusable Sesame Street bowls; mealtime just got a whole lot more fun!

9. DIG - Stamford 

A longtime city favorite for lunch, DIG (formerly Dig Inn) has made a name for itself with fresh, flavorful food that feels like it belongs in a full-service restaurant. If you haven’t tried it yet—you’re in for a treat. The dishes are beautifully prepared, and the veggies? You’ll fall in love with them in a whole new way. Everything is locally sourced, which means ultra-fresh, super tasty ingredients in every bite. And if you’re into tofu, DIG does it right, with creative, crave-worthy options you probably haven’t seen before. DIG’s Family Dinners are a total win, being perfectly sized for four and packed with goodness. It’s a no-brainer for busy nights when you want something quick, tasty, and actually nutritious. 10. Shake Shack - Stamford, Westport, Danbury, and Darien

What began as a hot dog cart in Madison Square Park in New York City in 2001, created by Danny Meyer to support the park's first art installation, Shake Shack has expanded into a global fast casual chain. With four locations in Fairfield County serving burgers, chicken tenders, shakes, and fries – what more could anyone ask for? Shake Shack is a family-friendly spot that prioritizes quality, offering antibiotic-free beef and ensuring all of their products are free from artificial ingredients and preservatives.

Pro tip: bring at least 2 spoons—these ice cream cookies are made for sharing.  Whether you’re celebrating a birthday or just showing up with dessert for a friend, Chip City is a sweet go-to, 

12. Van Leeuwen - Greenwich, Darien, New Canaan, and Westport

Like many beloved NYC food brands, Van Leeuwen got its start as a food truck before settling into brick-and-mortar shops. Now scooping across Fairfield County, this French-style ice cream spot is known for its standout flavors. Favorites include Honeycomb, Earl Grey Tea, and Cookies & Cream that keep fans coming back. Customize your scoop with toppings (rainbow sprinkles are my daughter’s go-to!). Every Connecticut location also offers vegan ice cream options, so there’s something for everyone. Craving more than just a cone or cup? There are milkshakes and sundaes, too.

13. Maman - Greenwich

Maman is such a sweet little spot in Greenwich; it smells like a cozy French bakery the moment you walk in. Open daily from 8 AM to 4 PM, this spot is perfect for breakfast or a casual lunch. The menu has everything from pastries and cookies to sandwiches and salads, with great vegan and vegetarian options. And you have to try the Nutty Chocolate Chip Cookie—it’s so good, even Oprah once put it on her Favorite Things list!

14. Gregory's Coffee - Darien 

Gregory's Coffee’s eye-catching logo is enough to make you pause and head inside. This elevated coffee shop has all your caffeine cravings covered—whether you’re in the mood for something hot or iced. The cafe also serves up freshly house-made smoothies and juices. On the food side, you’ll find classic baked treats and satisfying breakfast sandwiches. It’s a perfect spot for a laid-back family breakfast or a quick grab-and-go before a busy day. Bonus: it’s also a great place for parents looking to get some remote work done in a cozy setting.
