Sail Away with Mommy Poppins on Manhattan by Sail's Clipper City Tall Ship
Back on June 29, we hosted a special Mommy Poppins family cruise on the Clipper City Tall Ship with Manhattan by Sail. The sold-out voyage was such a huge success that many readers asked if we could do more cool New York Harbor trips. Ask and ye shall receive: We are thrilled to be partnering with Manhattan by Sail for our new Mommy Poppins Family Cruise Series.
We have four fun-filled sails coming up between now and October, each with a different theme and enriching kids activities to enjoy while cruising around the harbor (including a festive Halloween sail!). Take a look at some of the photos from our June excursion and read on to find out more about our upcoming sails and how you can book your tickets.
OUR LATEST VIDEOS
Taking a cruise on New York Harbor is one of our favorite summer activities in NYC. On these special Mommy Poppins outings, families will board Manhattan by Sail's replica Civil War-era cargo schooner Clipper City for an exciting voyage through the city's waters. We'll enjoy amazing views of the Statue of Liberty, the Brooklyn Bridge and other beloved NYC landmarks, plus there will be a stellar lineup of entertainment and enriching activities for children.
Here are some compliments we received from families who went on our last Ships, Sails and Tales of the Sea featuring Bill Gordh cruise:
"Wonderful concept, wonderful time, thanks so much for creating a great morning on sea!"
"Great crowd. Great staffing on the ship. Thank you for the unique experience."
"Bill Gordh is extremely talented."
Upcoming Mommy Poppins Family Sails
All trips are 75 minutes and include face painting, sailor skills, a PBS Kids Club THIRTEEN activity booklet and goody bag from The New Victory Theater. There will be two cruises on each date, at 10am and noon. Click through to our listings to read the full details of each outing or buy your tickets now.
Stories & Songs of the Sea
Sunday, August 4
Voyage back in time on the historic Clipper City. Hear tall tales and songs of the sea from ye olden days with master storyteller Bill Gordh. Gordh is a favorite of NYC school children and delighted the kids on our last cruise. He has also performed at the White House and at Pete Seeger's Clearwater Festival.
Pirate School! Sail
Tuesday, August 20 at noon
Ahoy mateys! Kids are encouraged to wear their best pirate getups and will learn nautical skills on board. They'll also catch David Engel's hilarious family-friendly solo show Pirate School!, a madcap interactive adventure about a bumbling swashbuckler who teaches youngsters how to stand, talk, sing and laugh like buccaneers.
Special Dads Pirate School! Sail
Tuesday, August 20 at 10am
We have joined forces with NYC Dads Group for this special trip for fathers. The lineup is the same as our other pirate sail but we're inviting dads specifically to join their kids and mingle with other fathers. Of course, moms and caregivers are also welcome.
Ecology Science Sail
Sunday, September 22
What lies beneath, flies above and lives all around us? You'll find out when you explore New York Harbor's water and wildlife with hands-on activities led by Natalie Tahsler. When not exploring the natural world of NYC, Tahsler is a science teacher and an educator for the American Museum of Natural History's Science Nature Program.
Spooky Halloween Sail with Dr. Blood
Saturday, October 19
Come in costume for a terrifyingly fun time as the demented Dr. Blood haunts the Clipper City. The doctor will have the kids in stitches with his gross and gory experiments, magic tricks and silly/scary schtick. He'll also lead a costume parade around the ship.
Click on the links for additional details and go to Manhattan by Sail to book your tickets now. Our last sail sold out in just a few days, so don't delay or you might miss out.
Tickets are $39 for adults, $35 for seniors and $25 for children under age 13.
