Preschoolers' little minds are constantly expanding, and it's a great time to naturally introduce a second language. Not only are there multiple school options on Long Island, but multiple language options.

Bilingual and Dual Language Preschools in Nassau County

1. Tzu Chi Long Island Education Center – Syosset

The school takes a holistic approach to learning, focusing on creating well-rounded children who grow into well-rounded adults. Children learn both Mandarin and English in the curriculum, which focuses on academic and character development. The school caters to children from 2 years and 6 months to 4 years 11 months. Children must be toilet trained and weaned off a bottle to enroll. 

2. Spanish Immersion Workshop – Garden City, Manhasset, Dix Hills

The Spanish Immersion Workshop has parent-and-me, toddler, preschool, and separate Spanish classes, including virtual options. Students will use Spanish the same way they use English. All activities are fully immersed in both languages. The school also boasts small class sizes, with no class being larger than 12 children. Parents can also make a flexible schedule, enrolling in 1 to 5 days in any combination. There is also a Suffolk County location in Dix Hills.

3. All About Spanish – Bellmore

All About Spanish has half-day, full-immersion Spanish classes for children ages 2-4. The school enhances dual learning with instruction in math, art, literacy, science, and more. Spanish culture is also incorporated into the program. 

4. Westbury Friends School – Westbury

There is a full-day Spanish immersion class for 3s and 4s, as well as a dual-language kindergarten program. Similar to other preschools, children learn literacy, science, math, and social skills while being immersed in Spanish language and culture. In addition, Westbury Friends School offers Mommy-and-Me classes and after-school Spanish classes for elementary-aged children. 

5. Japanese Children's Society – Port Washington

The preschool consists of a 3-year-old class, a 4-year-old class and a 5-year-old class. Parents can expect their children to have a day balanced between play and learning. There is English learning time as well as Japanese. In addition, offers a school that goes up to grade 6. The website is in Japanese, but it can be translated using Google Translate if you are unable to read it. 

6. Mercaz Academy – Plainview

There are two preschool programs at Mercaz Academy, a 3-year-old class and a 4-year-old class. In the 3s, children learn both their ABCs and the Hebrew alphabet. Children are immersed in Jewish tradition and culture while being introduced to Hebrew words. In the 4s, the program compounds the knowledge gained in the 3s. 

7. Hebrew Academy of Nassau County – West Hempstead

Little ones are immersed in Hebrew culture at HANC. There is both a 3-year-old program and a 4-year-old program. Children learn the Hebrew alphabet and its sounds, as well as Jewish culture. The school has three play areas, as well as a sensory walk in the school to enhance the student experience.

8. Cold Spring Harbor Nursery School – Cold Spring Harbor

There is a weekly Spanish immersion program run by the Spanish Immersion Workshop. Songs, games, movement activities, and more help children naturally acquire the Spanish language. 

9. Spanish Around the World – Smithtown

There are lots of options to incorporate Spanish language classes into a child's schedule at Spanish Around the World. Children from 18 months to 5 years old can attend the toddler and preschool programs, which are Montessori Spanish immersion. The school also offers a two-hour Spanish class for preschoolers 3 to 5 years and an after-school program for elementary-aged kids. The curriculum follows the Montessori method, using play and exploration for children to discover and learn about their world and themselves. Spanish language and culture are incorporated naturally into the program.
