Weekend Round-Up of Long Island Kids Events: May 1st-2nd
4/28/10
- By Maria
There is no shortage of family-friendly events this first weekend of May. The month of May is known for children’s festivals and the Tulip Festival held every year at Heckscher Park is a perfect example. Additionally, there is a festival celebrating Asian culture that is being held throughout the village of Port Washington. For another cultural experience, there is the Northport Artwalk, held throughout Northport Village, both outdoors and in art galleries and other eclectic venues. Enjoy!

This free, family-oriented, floral celebration is held annually within the natural beauty of historic Heckscher Park, enhanced by thousands of tulips planted in beds throughout the Park. Councilman Mark Cuthbertson, the founder of the festival, and Astoria Federal Savings, the chief sponsor of the festival, are looking forward to an even bigger community-driven event this year. In addition to the abundant bright tulips which serve as the festival's main attraction, there will be activity booths for children, live entertainment and a children's parade.
