Weekend Events for Kids on Long Island, July 10-12: The Best Festivals on Long Island
Seems like it is Summer Festival Season-this weekend Long Island offers plenty more than great beaches; from one of the best Greek festivals to Music festivals to festivals for kids, here are some of our recommendations for the best festivals to check out this weekend on Long Island.
OUR LATEST VIDEOS
Great South Bay Music Festival-Sure my idea of an outdoor music festival includes sitting on a grassy lawn with a picnic blanket and a beverage or two, but when we have our kids in tow, that just might not cut it. This is a great Festival; in fact, it is one of the biggest on the Island. They do a great job of offering interactive musical events just for kids in addition to the line up of more adult musical concerts. Some of the highlights include the Pirate Show with historically based characters performing a treasure hunt in front of your eyes to The Fuzzy Lemons, one of the coolest artsy-folk kid bands to Mr. Planet who cleverly blends astronomy and music on stage. Check out their website for a full schedule of great events all weekend long-and the best news-kids under 10 are free.
The Hamptons Greek Festival-For those of you heading to the far East this weekend, this is the can't miss event for you. If you love carnival carnivals, but hate spending too much this is a great Festival to check out. Plus, in the event the weather doesn't cooperate (as is forecasted), this is a great activity for a cloudy day. Admission is free, but there is plenty of homemade Greek food and family dancing to leave you feeling like you've spent your fortune. There are carnival type games and the like, but the best part about this Greek Festival is the tent dancing during the dinner hour, so be sure to plan your day accordingly so you make it.
Children's Festival and FREE Brady Rymer Concert- The town of Oyster Bay is offering a terrific way to spend your Saturday afternoon without spending any money. Check out the Children's Festival and Safety Day. Parents will love the the Fire and Police department displays and demonstrations, and the kids will love the blow up bounce houses and climbing walls. But let's face it-everyone will love the Grammy nominated Brady Rymer Concert, so be sure to stick around till 4pm. The Festival is John J Burns Park in Massapequa Park.
Have a Great Weekend!
